Kansas has suffered only one defeat this season, and it came at the hands of a Texas team that has been on a great run and sits right behind them in the national rankings. The rankings matter to Kansas because that will be a determinant of how high their seed is when it comes to playing in the NCAA Tournament. As far as their status as a sports betting proposition, the Jayhawks have been so-so, with a 9-10 ATS record.
Now they travel into Lincoln, where the Huskers are 15-1 straight-up on the season and allow just 54 points a game. Nebraska is very disciplined on defense, allowing teams to shoot just 37% from the field. They also intentionally play a game of pace, which is something that has been known to frustrate Kansas in the past. They will absolutely slow this game to a crawl if they possibly can.
In recent years, this has not necessarily been the easiest thing for them to do, however. Last year they went into Lincoln as a12-point favorite in the sports betting odds and came away with a push, but rang up 84 points, which was an indication that they were able to create a pace that was much closer to what they wanted. In the last four visits they have also scored 76 and 79 points. Even of they don’t play that fast, they have shown that they can exhibit enough patience (18.3 assists per game) to get off a good shot; in fact, they lead the nation in field goal percentage at 51.9%. Kansas has Missouri next on the schedule, which might be something of a distraction, but we believe they have the elements to get a lead and stretch it in a way that many other teams in the Big 12 don’t. We’ll lay the points with Kansas in the sports betting odds for college basketball.
