Sports Betting – Blue Devils Look To Remain Undefeated Wednesday

January 12, 2011

Wednesday night will be all about sports betting college basketball, with 13 of the top 25 teams taking to the hard court, including a couple of matchups between ranked teams.

The defending national champions and current No. 1 Duke lead that group as they look to remain undefeated against ACC rivals Florida State, while No. 4 Syracuse also tries to extend its perfect run against St. John’s. No. 17 Louisville will clash with No. 7 Villanova on the road, in one of those two aforementioned matchups.

Duke Blue Devils at Florida State Seminoles

Wednesday, 9:00 PM ET

After opening their season with 13 straight wins, the Blue Devils carried over their solid play in to the ACC with a pair of big wins, knocking off both UAB and Maryland in a couple of big wins to move to 15-0 on the year. Duke will look to continue its strong play on Wednesday night at Florida State, and will hope to avoid the slow start they had against the Terrapins, against whom they trailed by six points early in the second half- their largest deficit of the season. Nolan Smith was frustrated by Maryland for most of the game despite finishing with 18 points, but he missed 13 of the 18 shots that he took. Kyle Singler stepped up big-time with 25 points, while sophomore Seth Curry registered 12. Duke is now within two wins of matching its best start since 2005-06, and should be primed to move one step closer to that mark against a Seminoles’ team that has lost three of its first four to open the year. The Blue Devils have won five straight over Florida State, and 10 of their last 12 overall.

Sports Betting Pick: Duke -7.5

Syracuse Orange at St. John’s Red Storm

Wednesday, 7:00 PM ET

The Orange are one of five unbeaten teams remaining in the NCAA’s top division, and there is no reason to think that run won’t continue against St. John’s. Although there is a bit of an in-state rivalry to this game, Syracuse has won the last four between these teams, with the last two clinched by an average of 24 points. Last year it was the Red Storm against which the Orange clinched the Big East regular-season title, and despite that St. John’s has clinched an upset over Georgetown, Syracuse shouldn’t have a problem.

Sports Betting Pick: Syracuse -2.5

Louisville Cardinals at Villanova Wildcats

Wednesday, 7:00 PM ET

The only matchup of top 25 teams will feature a seventh-ranked Wildcats’ team that is looking for its 10th straight win, and a No. 17 Louisville squad that has strung together consecutive wins. Villanova is undefeated at home in nine contests, but will face its toughest task in a Cardinals team that has taken two of three NCAAB betting games against ranked opponents this season. Still, they will be in tough to stop a Wildcats’ team that has shot 54.8 percent from beyond the arc, with senior guard Corey Stokes leading the way with an average of 16.6 points per game.

Sports Betting Pick: Villanova -4
