Sports Betting – Auburn Team a Bunch of Comeback Kids
September 4, 2011

It’s almost hard for sports bettors to believe, given the power of their offense, but the Auburn Tigers have had to come back four times from deficits of ten points or more, developing a reputation as a bunch of "comeback kids." What is extraordinary is that they had done it only twice in the previous 15 years.
Could they possibly do that if they fell behind like that to Oregon? The BCS Championship Game takes place on Monday night at the University of Phoenix Stadium (natural turf0 in Glendale, AZ. In the sports betting odds on the game, Auburn is a 1.5-point favorite, with the total on the game listed at 73 points.

Auburn has come back four times from being down double-digits in a game to win, and these efforts have amazed sports bettors across the country. The most celebrated of those comebacks came against Alabama in the annual rivalry game, but the Tigers also came back against Clemson, where they were down 17-0 until kicking a field goal as time ran out in the first half. In that game, Cam Newton threw threw the ball 14 times, but it was for 203 yards, and on one of those plays Terrell Zachary hauled in a 78-yard TD pass. With seven completions and two interceptions, it was still not a banner outing for Newton.
There was another crisis time when they were down 20-7 late in the first half against South Carolina the very next week, and the team had to rally for a couple of fourth-quarter scores to win the game, also covering the number as a three-point sports betting underdog. They happened after fumbles by South Carolina quarterback Stephen Garcia, who was then yanked for freshman Connor Shaw, who threw a pair of interceptions. That helped to balance things out a bit, as Auburn had fumbled three times earlier in the game, with two of them setting up TD’s for the Gamecocks.
Georgia had them down 21-7 at the end of the first quarter, but then Auburn came back to tie things up at 21 at the half. Then they decided to do something very bold, trying an onside kick at the start of the third period, shocking many of the sports bettors who were watching, along with the Bulldog side. It worked, and the Tigers went on to win by a 49-31 score. This was a game where the suspicions surrounding Cam Newton’s eligibility had surfaced, and there was legitimate question as to whether he was going to play at all. He did, and had two touchdowns both passing and rushing, accounting for 299 yards on the afternoon.
In addition to that, they also came back from six points down in the fourth quarter to Arkansas to win by 22. That was a bizarre game, where Ryan Mallett went out of the game in the first half after hitting his head. Auburn got a break with that, and with three turnovers, and after going down 43-37 in the fourth period, they exploded for four touchdowns in a five-minute span to roll to the 65-43 win, beginning a string of six straight covers in sports betting. Auburn, which converted only two third downs on the day, was once again led by Newton, who had 188 rushing yards, and it was a good thing he was that proficient, because Tyler Wilson, the substitute who stepped in for Mallett, threw for 332 yards and four TD’s, bringing up some very serious questions about the Auburn defense.
When Auburn fell behind 24-0 in the "Iron Bowl" game, all the hope for an undefeated season went out the window – to everyone, it seemed, but the Auburn players and staff, that is. Auburn scored a touchdown before the half was over, and then added three more scores in the second half, took advantage of some Alabama mistakes, and let the defense take over in the final twelve minutes of the game to complete the epic 28-27 comeback win.
That got them in the SEC title game, and sports bettors can see where they are now.
