This game is potentially the biggest in Gamecock history. They have never played for an SEC title and as far as championships go, they have just one in school history – an ACC title in 1969.
Their opponents, the Florida Gators are no strangers to championships. The Gators have eight SEC title, including six that were won while Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier was at the helm in Gainesville. Florida has played for the SEC title a conference best 10 times.
Both teams own identical 6-3 overall records and 4-3 against the SEC. Florida is a little better against the spread with a 5-4 ATS record to the Gamecocks 4-5 ATS record. Neither team has done well for bettors including them in the college football predictions.
The 2010 Gators team has little resemblance to the 2009 Tim Tebow led Gators, at least on the offensive side of the ball. Tebow’s replacement John Brantley has underwhelmed with 1616 yards, eight touchdowns and six interceptions this season. They score 31.3 per game.
Defensively though, the Gators are still very solid. They have the seventh best defense in terms of yards allowed. The Gators are limiting opponents to just 292.6 yards a game. Florida allows 121.2 on the ground and 171.3 threw the air. Opponents are scoring 19.6 per game on the Gators this season.
The Gamecocks have a stout run defense, limiting opponent to just 104.9 on the ground. But they give up the 11th most passing yards per game (264.7). Opponents are scoring 21.9 on the Gamecocks.
Quarterback Stephen Garcia has thrown for 2065 yards, 14 touchdowns and 9 interceptions.
Running back Marcus Lattimore is averaging 83.5 yards a game and has scored 13 combined TDs this season.
A couple trends to consider before making our college football predictions are that the Gators are 6-1 ATS in their last seven home games against a team with a winning record. The Gamecocks are 1-4 ATS in their last five road games.
This may be the biggest game in Gamecocks school history but it will end in disappointment for Spurrier’s boys. Although, it should be a tight fought game and it will bring smiles to Gamecocks bettors.
NCAAF Betting Pick: South Carolina Gamecocks +6½
