This one pits a pair of fabulous quarterbacks against one another with the Sooners Landry Jones squaring off against the Tigers Blaine Gabbert.
Both field generals almost have mirroring statistics so far this season. Jones has completed 67.4 percent of his passes for 1791 yards with a TD/INT ratio of 14/3. Gabbert has completed 66.5 percent of his passes for 1591 yards and sports a 10/3 TD/INT ratio. Needless to say, but pigskins will be fired all over the field in tonight’s football betting battle.
Unfortunately for the both of them, they will have to throw into a pair of top notch defenses.
Now, the Sooners have been beaten through the air this season as it enters this spot ranked 81st against the pass serving up an average of 227.5 YPG. That said; it enters this match-up with a +9 turnover ratio having already picked off seven passes this season. It’s also been tough to score on as it ranks 28th in points allowed giving up an average of just 19 PPG.
The Tigers certainly hold the edge in pass defense as they’ve allowed an average of 211.5 YPG, but it just allowed Texas A&M’s Jerrod Johnson to throw for 322 yards against them last week. Though he only threw for one TD, the Aggies offense has struggled to put points on the board the last couple weeks. It flamed out in the red zone on a number of occasions, but that more than likely won’t be the case in this spot, as 10 of the Sooners 23 red zone TDs have come via the pass.
Unfortunately for Gabbert, he doesn’t possess the rushing attack that Jones has to keep opposing defenses honest. If there’s one thing that hampers the Tigers offensive rhythm, it’s the lack of a ground game; it currently ranks 84th in the country averaging just 131.8 YPG. With Mizzou not being able to balance its offense, it will be up to the junior field general to pass the Tigers to the football betting outright home win and cover.
NCAA Football Insider Tip: There’s no doubting just how badly Mizzou is going to want this one. The last time it opposed the Sooners came back in 2008 when it got throttled in the Big 12 Championship game 62-21 as lofty 16.5-point neutral field underdogs. Though they want it, it certainly doesn’t mean they’ll get it.
The ink is still fresh on the current BCS standings, and head coach Bob Stoops would like to see it air dry next to his clubs name for at least another week. While Mizzou also sits a perfect 6-0, it really hasn’t been challenged like the Sooners have been to date.
Football betting battles against Illinois in a neutral spot, SD State, Colorado, and Texas A&M have allowed it to look better than its stats. None of those teams are ranked in the Top 25. Oklahoma has already come out on top against Florida State, a pesky Air Force squad, Cincinnati, and Texas – the eye test can easily surmise that being the tougher schedule.
The Sooners know a run to the BCS Championship Game is theirs for the taking provided they don’t slip up the rest of the way. With #1’s falling on successive weekends, look for Boomer Sooner to bring their “A” game with them to Columbia, and survive a hard fought football betting battle against the Tigers.
