Should Georgia Tech Be Your NCAA Football Line Pick?
September 11, 2010
Coming off maybe the most embarrassing loss in school history, the Kansas Jayhawks will try to cover their first NCAA football betting line of the season.
But it won’t be easy, as they host the No. 15 ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Saturday afternoon in Lawrence.
Of all the ways new coach Turner Gill could have started his regime at Kansas, few could have expected things to go as poorly as they did in his opener.

No. 15 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (1-0 SU, 0-1 ATS) at Kansas Jayhawks (0-1 SU, 0-1 ATS)
Saturday, September 11: 12:00 p.m.
NCAA Betting Odds:
Georgia Tech: -14
Kansas: +14
In last Saturday’s game, not only did the Jayhawks lose, but they were absolutely, positively abysmal in a 6-3 loss to I-AA North Dakota State. For those who saw the game- which obviously wasn’t many- the final score was exactly as bad as it looks.
Realistically, there’s no real reason that the Jayhawks should have lost that game, other than that they simply didn’t show up to play. Also, the play of new quarterback Kale Pick didn’t help. While Pick wasn’t terrible (12 of 22 for 138 yards), it hardly matched the lofty standard set in previous years by former quarterback Todd Reesing. Simply put, Kansas has to be better on Saturday, if they have any chance of covering the NCAA football betting line.
At the same time, getting a win seems all but impossible going up against the No. 15 ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Few teams run the ball better than the Yellow Jackets, who already set the tone for 2010, by finishing last weekend’s 41-10 beat down of South Carolina State with 372 yards. That was fourth highest total amongst Division I teams.
As always for the Yellow Jackets, things begin with quarterback Joshua Nesbitt. In this option offense, Nesbitt is a runner first, and a passer second, and it showed last year, as he was second on the team with 1,037 yards rushing and 18 touchdowns. He got off to an even better start last weekend, when gashed South Carolina State for 130 yards and three scores. New running back Roddy Jones (replacing the departed Jonathan Dwyer) had four carries for 45 yards.
When it comes to this weekend, there are a lot of ways that we could break down this game for you, but at the end of the day, there’s only one thing you need to know: Georgia Tech is better in every aspect of the game. Take them as your NCAA football betting line pick.
The Yellow Jackets enter this game as a team that’s virtually impossible to stop with just a week to prepare, and are especially daunting for first year head coach Turner Gill. They can move the ball on anyone, as we learned last year when they won the ACC Championship. And it seems like they will be able to do the same this year.
Even more concerning for Kansas, is that if they’re not more careful with the ball than they were last week (three turnovers), they’re not going to be able to play catch up. The Yellow Jackets chew up clock and own the time of possession like few teams in college football. Last week was the exception, if only because they had quick scoring drives. And if Kansas has even a turnover or two, they’ll like dig themselves a hole they can’t possibly get out of.
When picking this NCAA football line, there’s only one play to make. Take Georgia Tech in a comfortable victory.
The Pick: Georgia Tech -14
