SEC College Football Odds – South Carolina Aims To Give Auburn Fits
September 25, 2010
Even though the Gamecocks rank five spots higher than the Auburn Tigers, they’re being pegged as road dogs in college football odds because of their unfortunate road record. Spurrier’s boys may be 2-0 ATS this season in three but the fact that they’re getting a handicap against Auburn is actually in their favor. The Auburn Tigers are not as good as everyone thinks they are.
South Carolina is just 1-6 SU in their last 7 games on the road. That record, however, stretches back to last year and this year’s team is much different. Auburn may have a 5-1 SU record in their past 6 games at home but there are glaring weaknesses all over the roster.

The Auburn Tigers continue to get solid production from their rushing game, which notched 221-yards against Clemson last weekend while losing on the line against the college football betting odds. Unfortunately, they only scored once on the ground and had to rely on quarterback Cameron Newton connecting on 8-yard and 78-yard touchdown passes.
#12 South Carolina Gamecocks (3-0) vs. #17 Auburn Tigers (3-0)

College Football Odds: Auburn -3.0 (54)
While those touchdown passes may make Auburn’s Newton look like a stud, he’s still mistake prone. He’s only connected on 27-of-47 passes for 525 passing yards and has 3 interceptions along with 5 sacks. He’s a versatile weapon to be sure, but he’s also 6-foot-6 and 250 pounds and his mobility is outstanding for a man his size, but he hasn’t seen anything like the speedy Gamecocks defense yet.
Bolstering the college football odds for the underdog Gamecocks is their defense, which gives up 12.7 points per game and is ranked 9th best in the country. It’s no secret that Auburn’s success against the college football odds has to come from the ground game, and South Carolina has only given up an average of 59.7 yards rushing per game thus far.
And Auburn certainly hasn’t seen a one man wrecking crew like freshman running back Marcus Lattimore who is becoming an outside shot to win the Heisman. He scored 2 touchdowns in his first game, rushed for 182 yards (albeit on 37 attempts) against Georgia with another pair of scores, and tore up Furman for a 5.1 yards per carry average with another touchdown in Week 3.
Auburn has given up 21.3 points per game against lesser opponents and has allowed 115.7 yards rushing against. They’re also just 1-2 ATS this season, which means the oddsmakers have had trouble nailing them down on the betting line so far.
This is another one of the times where the oddsmakers have missed the number so I would jump all over these college football odds before the public and the betting sharps correct it.
