Saturday Horse Racing – Maryland Millions Classic Races on Laurel’s Card
September 25, 2009
Laurel Park in Maryland will hold their now supremely popular Maryland Millions Classic Day this Saturday, September 26 th.
All of the races are worth good money, but we’ll concentrate on five of the best races on the card with purses of at least $100,000 or more. That’s races 7 through 11 on Saturday’s Laurel Park card. The BetOnline online racebook will offer wagering on each race.
Let’s take a look at Races 7 – 11 on the Maryland Millions Classic Laurel Park race card.
Race 7 – Maryland Million Distaff Handicap
Race-time: 4:00 pm EST
7 furlongs dirt
Love For Not – - Tons of speed should set up her kick but jockey Mike Luzzi will need to be careful about keeping her far back enough without losing touch of the field.
All Giving – - Gets the outside draw and has no business losing this but her last race was terrible and trainer Flint Stites is only 7% off of a layoff.
Met A Miner – - If nobody goes with her, she’ll be long gone. Dominguez plus Lake has proven unbeatable before.
Race 8 – Maryland Million Lassie Stakes
Race-time: 4:33 pm EST
6 furlongs dirt
Lil Kiara – - Progeny of Lion Hearted are exceptionally fast. This one looks even faster than his usually stout offspring and should roll to a front running victory with ease in this.
For Royalty – - She was horrible in her last race, a stakes at Monmouth, but she already has a stakes victory, from Mountaineer, to her credit and trainer Todd Pletcher is exceptional with 2 year olds.
E’s On Main – - The first time starter from Graham Motion’s barn has been working exceptionally well for this and with the exception of the top two pair, no other horse figures. Why not?
Race 9 – Maryland Million Sprint Handicap
Race-time: 5:06 pm EST
6 furlongs dirt
Roaring Lion – - Yet another Lion Hearted who should be very difficult to run down. This guy no doubt will get the lead, might be tested, and will run right into the winner’s circle.
Not For Silver – - Dropping out of tough graded races against much better company. That should help, and Not For Silver should be able to close into a very fast pace.
Celtic Innis – - Gets the rail, but, more importantly, has the style to win this if the pace is hot. Celtic Innis should be right behind the front runners. From there, it’s all about taking over and holding on in the stretch.
Race 10 – Maryland Million Turf Stakes
Race-time: 5:39 pm EST
1 1/8 miles turf
Target Sighted – - The gelded son of Not For Love has won two in a row and could improve greatly in only his 4 th lifetime race. He gets jockey Jeremy Rose and does have a victory on the turf at Laurel Park.
Izzy Speaking – - The likely chalk will be at a disadvantage breaking form the 10 hole, but if jockey Ramon Dominguez can get him in good position early, he has a good shot of winning this.
Moon Ala Mode – - This gelded son of Malibu Moon has a record of 4-3-4 out of 19 starts on the turf. Since he does most of his running at Saratoga and Belmont, he has to be considered a contender on class in this.
Race 11 – Maryland Millions Classic
Race-time: 6:12 pm EST
1 1/8 miles on dirt
Regal Solo – - The odds should be nice on this son of Louis Quatorze as he’s coming into this out of a $40,000 claimer. The trainer who claimed him, Damon Dilodovico, hits with 46% of his first time claimers. This is a classic overlay horse on which to wager.
Rhythmn Master – - Can lead, stalk, come from the clouds, whatever jockey Jeremy Rose needs, this guy can do it. His odds are going to be extremely short in this, however, so horseplayers should take that into consideration before jumping on him.
Broadway Producer – - Yes, his speed ratings are gaudy, but he doesn’t win a lot of races and he gets the rail which means he might have to wait for room in this big field before making his run, go wide around the final turn, or hot foot it out of the gate. No matter what he does, he’ll be an underlay in this race.
