Saturday Baseball Odds – Blue Jays vs White Sox
May 8, 2010
Game 3 of the baseball betting series between the Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago White Sox picks back up Saturday night from US Cellular Field. Toronto took the first game of the series on Thursday night 2-0 and held a 3-2 season series advantage heading into Friday night’s game.
At the time of this publication, the Blue Jays currently sit five-games in back of the AL East leading Tampa Bay Rays, while the White Sox trail the AL Central leading Minnesota Twins by seven-games.
Toronto has been a solid road squad to date going 10-3 overall and adding $1110 worth of profit to their betting backers bottom line. Chicago’s surprisingly struggled at home splitting their first 16 games of the season (8-8, -$238).
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Chicago White Sox
Game Date/Time: Saturday, May 8th, 7:05 ET
Game Location: US Cellular Field, Chicago, IL
TV Broadcast: SNET, WGN, XM Radio
Tonight’s match-up could be a good one with a pair of solid arms squaring off.
Lefty Brett Cecil has made the most of his stay in the bigs since being called up. He enters his fourth start of the season 2-1 overall with a 2.61 ERA & 0.77 WHIP and K/BB ratio of 21/4.
He’s coming off a near no-no performance at Cleveland where he didn’t surrender a hit until the 8th inning. He dominated the tribe limiting them to the one hit and one ER while K’ing 10 and walking a pair. The Blue jays have won six of his L/10 overall starts.
He faced the White Sox in his lone career start against them last season where he surrendered just six hits and three runs in the Blue Jays 8-3 home victory.
Jake Peavy finally looked like the staff ace the White Sox thought they traded for at the end of last season in his last start against the Kansas City Royals. He toyed with the Royals lineup allowing just four hits and no runs through seven innings of work. Most importantly however was the fact that he only issued one free pass after walking 20 batters throughout the month of April.
Overall, the righty is 1-2 on the year with a 6.31 ERA & 1.60 WHIP allowing 36 hits and 25 ER’s with a K/BB ratio of 31/21 through 35.2 IP.
He got roughed up in his first career start against Toronto last month allowing eight hits and seven ER’s through 5.2 innings of a no decision effort.
MLB Baseball Insider Tip: This one has pitcher’s duel written all over it. Combine that with the fact that Chicago is batting just .215 at home against lefthanders this season, and it’s highly probable that runs will be very hard to come by in this game.
With Peavy just churning out his best outing of the year and Cecil currently throwing dominating stuff, this one has low scorer written all over it.
With the under 9-3 the L/12 times the Blue Jays opposed a sub .500 squad and 6-8-2 in Chicago’s home games this season, look for this baseball betting battle to be of the lower scoring variety.
My MLB Prediction: Toronto/Chicago Under (Cecil/Peavy)
