Santa Anita Raceway Pick 3 Picks
They’re off the turf on Wednesday at Santa Anita. That’s okay because the Pick 3 ticket I plan on betting involves three races on Santa Anita’s Pro-Ride surface.
Have the recent rains in SoCal affected the Pro-Ride? It’s doubtful. According to on-track specialists, the Pro-Ride is in good enough condition for racing on Wednesday. Let’s hope that’s true because the Pick 3 below could pay handsome dividends in the BetUS online racebook.
Santa Anita Pick 3
Race 6
Maiden Claiming $32,000 For Fillies Three Years Old
7 furlongs on Pro-Ride
Race-day: 2/10/2010
1st Leg: 6:36 pm EST
Horses Used: 3-If You Knew Susie, 6-Macho Miss, 7-Lana’s Lovely, 9-Kiss’em For Me
Analysis: If You Knew Susie improved smartly from her first race to her second race by recording a par figure at this distance. If she improves yet again in her 3rd lifetime race, then forget it. The rest of this field will be running for third. Macho Miss is a first time starter from the barn of trainer Cesar Dominguez. Dominguez usually doesn’t score with his first time starters but Macho Miss had a fantastic work out of the gate on February 5th and debuts with Lasix. She could be well meant in this. Lana’s Lovely gets blinkers after finishing 2nd in a $32,000 maiden claimer going 6 ½ furlongs in her last. With a bit more speed the morning line chalk could get to the winner’s circle. Kiss’em For Me switches jockeys to Rafael Bejarano, who is winning at a 24% clip, and did improve in her second lifetime race. She could be tough in this.
Race 7
Optional Claiming $80,000n$y For Four Year Olds and Up
1 mile on Pro-Ride
Horses Used: 2-Euroglide, 5-Deal Breaker, 8-Mythical Power
Analysis: Euroglide steps up in class from the $62,500 optional claiming level and stretches out to a mile after having run in sprint races his entire life. The distance should suit Euroglide who will be closer to the pace in this than he has been in his sprint races. He could surprise. Deal Breaker also takes a slight step up in class, will be close to the pace, and has Rafael Bejarano on his back. He’s also 2 for 2 on Santa Anita’s Pro-Ride surface. Mythical Power finished 5th in the Grade II San Fernando in his last. He’s an extremely classy horse who hasn’t done that well on the Pro-Ride in his only two starts on the surface. Trainer Bob Baffert puts blinkers on Mythical Power in hopes of lighting a fire under his ass. If it doesn’t work, then the horse simply doesn’t like the Pro-Ride and I doubt we ever see him on it again. I’m putting Mythical Power in my Pick 3 just in case the blinkers do work.
Race 8
Claiming $12,500n2L For Four Year Olds and Up
6 ½ furlongs on Pro-Ride
Horses Used: 3-Spinning Sound, 7-Figeac, 10-Objectified, 12-Crash Landing
Analysis: Spinning Sound drops in class and goes back to Rafael Bejarano whom almost took Spinning Sound to the finish line first two races ago. The extra ½ a furlong should help Spinning Sound big time in this. Figeac goes first time for trainer Gary Stute and drops form the $32,000 claiming level. If Figeac’s recent works over the Pro-Ride surface are any indication, the gelded son of Elusive Quality should have no problem switching from turf to the Pro-Ride. Objectified goes for trainer Ted H West whose father, Ted West, used to rule the claiming ranks out in SoCal. Ted H West doesn’t do that badly with his charges and Objectified drops in class and will be running in this off of a layoff. Crash Landing missed by only ¾ of a length at this level going 6 furlongs in his last. Jockey Joe Talamo will have to work out a trip for Crash Landing because the horse breaks from the 11 hole, but the horse could be on the verge of a victory.
Combinations: 4 x 3 x 4 = 48
$1 Pick 3: $48
