Santa Anita Race 7 – Horse Picks
February 5, 2009
We hit the exacta as well as the win and place money on our top pick at Santa Anita yesterday – - Modification.
Smart sports betting fans will go ahead and roll that money into another race. Not all of it. Just some of it. Since Santa Anita was so nice to online racebook fans yesterday, why not stick there for today’s pick of the day?
Race-day: 2/5/2009
Race-time: 4:07 pm
Let’s get to it!
Santa Anita – Race 7
Optional Claiming $40,000 n1x
For Four Year Olds and Up
1 ¼ mile on Pro-Ride
Power Blitz – - 7/2 online betting odds
This fella just ran on January 18th where he finished 3 by 2 ½ lengths to Lightning Hit. I might have picked him that day as well as he sure looks like a winner coming out of the Neil Drysdale barn and ridden by Joel Rosario. He goes turf to artificial for Drysdale and even though he’s never run at this 1 ¼ mile distance, his daddy, Fusaichi Pegasus won the Kentucky Derby in 2000 and his mother, Sunday Wish, is out of Sadler’s Wells. He should relish the distance. The issue is that this race is sorely lacking in speed. I suspect that and will keep this fella much closer to the pace if need be.
Throne of Power – - 2/1 online betting odds
There is all sorts of class tied up in this $160,000 buy out of Pulpit. Trainer Patrick Biancone, who is finding it difficult to get back into the swing of things after being suspended for a years, saddles this Great Britain ex-pat that could make race fans very happy. Jockey Joe Talamo gets better with each race and Throne of Power is the goods – - maybe. But his odds will be shorter than Power Blitz’s. I can’t endorse on top.
Isipingo – 6/1 online betting odds
Sometimes a trainer drops a horse because he can’t get the horse to win. Other times a trainer drops a horse because he just feels that the horse has given up. Then, there are times when a trainer keeps dropping a horse because he needs to get something, anything, out of the animal. This might be one of those times as in 2007 Isipingo was running in graded races and now finds himself going up for the claim in a $40,000 optional. He can win this but Power Blitz and Throne of Power are using this to pad their resume which means Isipingo might be done as a racehorse.
Wagering Strategy
I’ll be Power Blitz to win and place as well as put him into an exacta with Isipingo and Throne Power. I will also play a trifecta box with Throne of Power, Isipingo and Power Blitz.
Good Luck!
