Sacramento Kings vs. Phoenix Suns – Raining Buckets

April 3, 2009

The Sacramento Kings travel to Phoenix to take on the Suns in a game that means nothing to the Kings and everything to the Suns. Sacramento is an awful team as their straight-up record of 16 and 58 will attest to. Gone are the days when the Kings posed the greatest threat to the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference. What has saved Sacramento has been their ability to keep it close, they have solid record ATS going 36 and 38 for the season. Even on the road the Kings are a decent 21 and 16.

Since moving to a more up tempo style, the Suns have been better straight-up. They are now 41 and 34 for the season. Phoenix has the ability to run and gun but that hasn’t translated to victories ATS as the Suns have gone 31-41-2 for the year. However, Phoenix has been much better lately going 7 and 3 against the spread in their last 10 games.

Here is the BetOnline NBA betting line for this game.

Sacramento Kings +13 -110 O 242 -110

Phoenix Suns -13 -110 U 242 -110

Here are a few trends for this game.

The Sacramento Kings are 4 and 1 ATS in their last 5 games as the underdog.

The Sacramento Kings are 0 and 5 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in Phoenix.

The Phoenix Suns are 5 and 1 ATS in their last 6 games at home.

The Phoenix Suns are 8 and 1 against the spread in their last 9 games versus a team with a losing straight-up record.

I haven’t listed any trends regarding the Total because 242 points is insane. Yes, the Suns will score a lot and Sacramento will try to score with them, but the Kings can be lousy at times. In fact, there have been games where the Kings haven’t broken 90 much less 100 points.

In order to hit the total the Kings would have to be competitive. I just don’t think they will be.

The last time these two teams met the Suns won by only 8 points at home 126 to 118. I see this being more of a blow out with Phoenix jumping out to a huge lead and then coasting to a victory. I see the score around 124 to 108 in this.

I’ll be betting on the fact that the Suns are playing well, they beat Houston as 1 ½ point favorites at home by 5 on April 1st, while the Kings are coming off of a ridiculous game on April 1st where they lost by 2 points in overtime to the Golden State Warriors 143 to 141.

I’ll take the Suns to cover at -13 in the Sportsbook.
