Rangers Snag Surprising Baseball Odds Win in Game 1

October 6, 2010

The ALDS will get started on Wednesday afternoon at Tropicana Field, and baseball odds betting fans won’t want to miss this duel between the Texas Rangers and the Tampa Bay Rays from Tropicana Field.

The Rays enter this postseason having just narrowly captured their second AL East title in franchise history.

It had been a long time coming that someone bounced the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim from the AL West throne, but the Rangers now own the divisional title and are looking to take the next step towards the World Series.

When you look up the definition of "unhittable" in the dictionary, you find a picture of Cliff Lee sitting there with his stats from the postseason last year with the Philadelphia Phillies. He only allowed two earned runs in his first four starts of the second season and ended with a 1.56 ERA to show for his 40.1 innings of work.

With the Rangers, Lee only went 4-6 with a 3.98 ERA in 15 starts, but those numbers aren’t so far off from what he did with the Phils last year in the regular season after the trade deadline.

Though his last start against Tampa Bay was a rough one, Lee is 6-5 against the baseball odds with a 2.87 career ERA in 13 starts against the Rays.

David Price was a hero for the Rays out of the bullpen in 2008, especially when he finished off the Boston Red Sox in the ALCS with a four out save.

Now in his third season, the 25 year old could be a Cy Young Award winner. Price went 19-6 on the year with a 2.72 ERA. He struck out 188 men in 208.2 innings of work and was virtually unhittable at times.
The only bad news for manager Joe Maddon is that Price has had a dreadful time against these Rangers.

If his 0-2 baseball odds record and 7.45 career ERA in four starts proves to be hampering, Tampa Bay could be in some real MLB playoff betting trouble.

MLB Insider Tip: The Rangers are just 5-17 in their L/22 MLB betting battles at Tropicana Field.

However, they are also a rock solid 5-5 against Tampa Bay since August 23rd of last season, and that includes the Rays winning four straight to close out the regular season series this year.

Lee was too tough for anyone to tame in the postseason last year with the Phils, and we tend to think that he is going to get the visitors off to a good start in this series.

Back the Rangers on the baseball odds Wednesday afternoon!
