Rags to Riches Saratoga Horse Racing Odds
September 3, 2010
Thursday’s feature at Saratoga is the $70,000 Riskaverse, which was so popular among horsemen that the race was split into two races.
The more intriguing the of the two races is the ninth race, which features the return of Lisa’s Booby Trap, who will be making her turf debut.
The filly, who is blind in one eye, was purchased by Tim Snyder for just $4,500 and has managed to win all four of her starts by a combined 43 lengths.

Her first three starts came at Finger Lakes, and she showed last out winning the Loudonville Stakes at Saratoga by six lengths she is the real deal.
Lisa’s Booby Trap is named after Snyder’s wife, who died of cancer in 2003.
It is a rags to riches story that has peaked the interest of Hollywood as well as Dateline NBC, which is planning to do a story about the filly and her connections.
The question mark for bettors on Thursday is whether she can handle turf.
The race is the middle leg of our Late Pick 3 ticket, and while I am using the filly, I am also using two fillies that likely will offer better value, Doe Run and Sea Road.
Today’s Play of the Day from Saratoga:
SAR Race 6 OClm $35,000N1X (3:49 ET)
#7 Muhaawara 4/1
#8 Dance Pass 2/1
#2 Emerald Beech 8/1
#4 Sweet Tune 4/1
#7 Muhaawara makes her second start on turf, last out tracking the early pace and weakening in the stretch while lugging in in a sixth place finish, beaten 3 1/2 lengths for the top spot. The winner of the race was It’s Tea Time, who came back to win the Lake Placid (G3) by 7 1/4 lengths in her next outing on Aug. 22. The third place finisher Beautician also won next out, taking a Alw-2L race on Aug. 29. We will give the filly one more look on turf here although the stretch out to 1 3/8 miles might be testing. She is out of the stakes winner Habibti ($564K) who did her best work sprinting.
#8 Dance Pass returns off a two-month freshening, last out a game runner up finish. The filly was the beaten chalk in all three of her trips since coming to the U.S. Her best effort on the other side of the pond was a decent fourth in Group 3 company. Any of her last three efforts look good enough to beat this group, although the price will again be on the light side.

SAR Race 8 Clm $20,000 (4:57 ET)
#1 Lovely Promise, #3 Platinumplus
#1 Lovely Promise returns off a 2 1/2 month break after failing to fire her best last out in a eighth place finish against $50K starter allowance types. She may have been ready for a regression off a pair of sharp wins two and three back on turf. She comes back here for a barn that is 35% winners (with a +ROI) with horses coming back off a 61-180 day layoff and gets a jock upgrade to Maragh. She broke her maiden over the turf here last year.
#3 Platinumplus made a good late rally, angling to the outside after getting caught briefly in traffic and came up just a head shy of the top spot. She beat $25K non-winners of three two back and her last two speed figs are tops in this field. She should be rolling late, but the price may end up on the light side.
SAR Race 9 The Riskaverse (5:31 ET)
#6 Doe Run, #4 Sea Road, #2 Lisa’s Booby Trap
#6 Doe Run came off a two month break with a game runner up finish versus Alw-1 foes. The winner of that race was It’s Tea Time, who came back to win the Lake Placid (G3) on Aug. 22. The filly appears to be heading in the right direction and looks to be sitting on a good one here in her second start off the short break. The Phipps barn is having a tough meet, 0 for 17, but the former Mott assistant appears to have some live runners entered this week. Decent value if we catch most of the 8/1 ML.
#4 Sea Road made a good late rally to win the Hattie Moseley last out. The third place finisher in the race was Barracks Road, who came back to win the Ontario Coleen at Woodbine on Aug. 28 at Woodbine. The Hough filly has won 4 of 6 on turf including a pair of stakes wins. She fits well in this spot.
SAR Race 10 Md Sp Wt (6:04 ET)
#3 Theresmyeverything, #5 Rudy Rudy Rudy, #1 Mazara Del Vallo, #10 Coupon
#3 Theresmyeverything dueled for the early lead from the inside and weakened late to finish third in his debut over the poly at Arlington Park going 5 1/2 furlongs. Now the colt lands with the Rice barn and she stretches him out to a route on turf while facing state breds. Ramon picks up the call and this guy has a decent enough pedigree to handle the stretch out. Rice is 16% winners with horses trying the turf for the first time. The colt is out of a Way West mare that has dropped three dirt winners.
#5 Rudy Rudy Rudy makes his debut for the RRod barn that is showing a 1 for 6 mark (with a +ROI) with first time starters. The colt is out of a Relaunch mare that has dropped five winners including three grass winners, top earner turf stakes winner Redefined ($462K) who won a dozen times over the turf.

These are price plays to watch today. A small win-place wager is in order or if your pockets are deep enough, use these runners in your trifecta and Pick 3 and Pick 4 wagers. One or two of these could be the difference between a regular day at the track and hitting the IRS window with a signer.
