Racebook Betting – Jump Aboard the Quarter Horse Guys in Race 5 at Del Mar

August 5, 2010

Rarely does a horse come over from Los Alamitos to try and beat its peers at one of the top SoCal tracks, but that’s exactly what’s happening in Race 5 at Del Mar on Thursday.

One of the top trainers at Los Alamitos, a quarter horse track in Pomona, California, saddles a horse named Light of a Star in Race 5.

Light of a Star looks like a great racebook betting pick to win the 5th at Del Mar on Thursday.

Not only does the trainer, Charles Treece, saddle Light of a Star in a race at Del Mar but he also sends the horse’s jockey, fantastic quarter horse rider Ramon Guce, to ride Light of a Star in the 5th.

If that’s not a clue as to what the goal is, I don’t know what is! My hope is that the horse race betting odds stay at around 7/2 on Light of a Star on Thursday.

6-Light of a Star – - 7/2 morning line odds

Ramon Guce is used to taking horses gate to wire. He’s easily one of the best jockeys I have ever seen to get his horse out of the gate, on the lead, and to the finish line.

The incredibly strong Guce is going to hustle Light of a Star all the way to the finish line.

If the horse gets too tired, then I suspect she could get beat, but with Guce on her back, I’m confident that she’ll keep going until he takes his foot off of the pedal.

Light of a Star does face other speed in this but none of those other speed horses come close to being as fast as she is in that first quarter mile. She should be long gone by the time she reaches the top of the stretch.

7-First Queen – - 3/1 morning line odds

If, somehow, they do rough up Light of a Star early, then the Doug O’Neill trained First Queen should be the one to pick up the pieces.

First Queen is coming off of a 2nd place finish at 6 ½ furlongs and at this level over Hollywood Park’s cushion track. She should be able to settle behind the other speed and then make a run at Light of a Star at the top of the stretch.

The biggest issue with First Queen is that her morning line horse race betting odds of 3/1 makes her a serious underlay in this race.

5-Rev Her Up – - 4/1 morning line odds

There’s a possibility that Light of a Star gets a ton of pressure early and First Queen doesn’t fire. If that happens, then Rev Her Up is the most likely winner of the race.

The daughter of Decarchy has already been beaten down by Light of a Star, losing to that one by 8 ¾ lengths in a race at Santa Anita in April, but perhaps, with more speed signed on, she’ll be able to get to Light of a Star on Thursday.

Horse Wagering Strategy

Light of a Star looks very tough in Del Mar’s 5th on Thursday. I do believe that Light of a Star stays close to her 3/1 horse race betting odds. Even at 5/2, she’s a great bet to win the 5th at Del Mar on Thursday.

Besides betting on Light of a Star to win, I’m also going to key her in an exacta over Rev Her Up and First Queen. I will reverse for less.

I’m also going to play a superfecta keying Light of a Star over Rev Her Up, First Queen over Rev Her Up, First Queen, 1-Nine To Dine, 8-Mary The Princess over ALL.

Good luck!
