Horses worth watching, a list of runners compiled by handicapper/turf writer Greg Melikov, should do well next time out. These thoroughbreds are worth considering when developing your wagering strategy for horse online betting or at your favorite track.

ARLINGTON PARK

Sleetcalling: Pinched back at break, raced fifth early, steadied entering turn, steadied again near the quarter-mile marker, slipped through inside during stretch run and gained second by 1 ¼ lengths at six furlongs on May 7.

BELMONT

Cromwell Alley: Broke slowly ninth and last, trailed by 11 ½ lengths after a half-mile, swung six wide at quarter pole, rallied belatedly from fourth in stretch to make up more than 3 ¾ lengths and finished second by 3 ¾ lengths at 7 ½ furlongs on May 8; ran final 1 ½ furlongs in 18 3/5.

CALDER

Starship Valor: Raced more than six lengths behind in fourth after a half-mile, rallied four wide entering stretch, made up nearly four lengths and finished second beaten a neck at six furlongs on a sealed sloppy surface May 8.

CHURCHILL DOWNS

Ivory Empress: Broke seventh and last, raced 3 ½ lengths behind in sixth after three-eighths of a mile, advanced to fifth off turn, blocked in upper stretch, angled out for clear path, carried out when winner came out, made up three lengths and finished second beaten a neck at five furlongs on the turf May 8.

HOLLYWOOD PARK

Fly Boy: Crowed at start, steadied, raced outside more than eight lengths behind in 10th after three-eighths of a mile, split rivals on turn, closed fast in stretch to make up more than 6 ½ lengths and finished second beaten a half-length at 5 ½ furlongs on May 7.

INDIANA DOWNS

Next Adventure: Ducked out early, bumped third place finisher, dropped to sixth and last more than six lengths behind after a half-mile, saved ground along rail into stretch, railed to make up nearly two lengths and finished second beaten a neck at six furlongs on March 17 at Hawthorne; ran final quarter in 23 3/5.

LONE STAR PARK

Tiger Boy: Raced more than five lengths behind in sixth after a quarter mile, in tight at seven-sixteenths pole, stride became abnormally high and dropped back near three-eighths pole, rallied into final furlong, made up more than 1 ½ lengths in stretch and finished second beaten a half-length at 4 ½ furlongs on May 6.

LOUISIANA DOWNS

First to Bingo: Hopped at start, steadied in tight, trailed 10th and last more than 6 ½ lengths behind after a half-mile, swung out six wide for drive, closed fast from sixth in stretch to make up 4 ½ lengths and finished second beaten a neck at about 7 ½ furlongs on the turf May 8.

PHILADELPHIA PARK

Miss Rapture: Raced seventh more than five lengths behind after a half-mile, forced six wide near quarter pole, closed strongly to make up more than 1 ½ lengths in stretch and finished second beaten a half-length at 6 ½ furlongs on May 11.

PIMLICO

Safety Valve: Fractious in gate, raced six lengths behind in fifth after a half-mile, lost ground to sixth after six furlongs, angled to six path in upper stretch, rallied to make up more than 3 ¼ lengths and finished second beaten three-quarters of a length at a mile on the turf May 6; ran final quarter in 24 3/5.

WOODBINE

Executive Sherri: Raced seventh early, dropped to eighth more than 6 ½ lengths behind after a half-mile, rallied determinedly in stretch to make up more than two lengths and finished second beaten a half-length at seven furlongs on May 5; ran final three furlongs in 36 3/5.
