Racebook Betting – Del Mar Late Pick 4 – July 30th

August 1, 2010

Richard’s Kid, last year’s Pacific Classic winner at Del Mar, returns to action as a short-priced favorite in the racebook betting sportsbook on Friday night.

The Bob Baffert trainee will be using the Grade III Cougar II Handicap as a prep for the Grade I Pacific Classic in late August.

Because of that, Richard’s Kid is vulnerable to being upset in the 7th.

My best Del Mar bet of the day actually occurs in Race 7 on Friday night.

The reason I bring up Richard’s Kid in my Pick 4 write-up for Friday night, however, is because I will not be using the short-priced thoroughbred betting favorite on my ticket.

Del Mar Pick 4 – July 30th, 2010

Hollywood Park – Races 5 thru 8

Where: Del Mar, CA

When: Race 5 (Leg 1) – 9:00 pm EST
Race 6 (Leg 2) – 9:30 pm EST
Race 7 (Leg 3) – 10:00 pm EST
Race 8 (Leg 3) – 10:30 pm EST

TV: TVG

Race 5 (Leg 1)

Maiden Special Weight

Purse $50,000. For California Bred Or California Sired Maidens, Three-Years-Old And Upward.

6 ½ furlongs over Polytrack

Horses Used: 1-Cee’s Pryme, 3-Full Effect, 8-Absolutelypositively, 10-Franconi

Horse Betting Analysis: Cee’s Pryme picks up jockey Joel Rosario for the debut and runs for Carla Gaines, a 17% first time trainer.

Full Effect is 0 for 17 lifetime including 0 for 2 at Del Mar, but is coming off of his best ever race. Lucky #18? Absolutelypositively will be close to the pace throughout.

That’s a good place to be for the son of Cee’s Tizzy. It’s his race to lose. Franconi goes second time for trainer Matthew Chew.

If he improves even a little bit, he’ll be there in the end and should be going off at good thoroughbred betting odds.

Race 6 (Leg 2)

Allowance Optional Claiming $25,000

Purse $57,000. For California Bred Or California Sired Fillies And Mares Three-Years-Old And Upward Which Have Never Won $10,000 Other Than Maiden, Claiming, Or Starter Or Which Have Never Won Two Races Or Claiming Price $25,000.

1 1/16th miles over turf

Horses Used: 1-Ashee, 2-Powerofvoodoo, 7-Warren’s Jitterbug

Analysis: Trainer Jeff Mullins is 27% winners first after the claim. That’s why Ashee is a must use.

The stretching out daughter of In Excess could be very, very tough in this. Powerofvoodoo only has 2 victories in 50 lifetime starts.

One of those victories was at Del Mar, however, and she got a nice prep for this only 7 days ago when finishing 3rd at a mile on the turf.

Warren’s Jitterbug figures to be the likeliest beneficiary of what should be a seriously fast pace.

She was last seen running in a Grade II at Santa Anita and could be very tough to handle if Patrick Valenzuela gets her into a good position early.

Race 7 (Leg 3)

Cougar II H. (Grade III)

Purse $125,000. For Three-Year-Olds And Upward.

1 ½ miles over Polytrack

Horses Used: 4-Princess Taylor, 6-Temple City

Analysis: If Princess Taylor doesn’t get any heat from Temple City, the 6-year-old mare could beat the boys in the Grade III Cougar.

She’ll be on the lead until Temple City decides to go past her. Temple City has this race all to his own.

If he decides to grab the lead, he can do it. If he decides to track Princess Taylor, he can do it.

The closers, including Richard’s Kid, are going to have to be exceptional on Friday night in order to run down Temple City.

Race 8 (Leg 3)

Maiden Claiming $25,000 – $22,500

Purse $21,000. For Maidens, Three-Years-Old And Upward.

1 1/16th miles over Polytrack

Horses Used: 2-No Stadium, 3-Royal Dream, 10-Casa O

Analysis: No Stadium, Royal Dream and Casa O will all be on or near the lead in this maiden claimer. My hope is that one of them hangs on for the victory and sends some much needed thoroughbred betting profits my way!

4 x 3 x 2 x 3 = 72 combinations

$1 Pick 4 = $72

Good luck!
