Premier League Soccer: Bolton Wanderers vs. Burnley

Bolton Wanderers are in the relegation zone and they will be looking to climb out of the trenches at the expense of Burnley F.C on Tuesday, the promoted outfit that hovering close to the danger zone, only two points clear of Bolton in the table.

This is a huge opportunity for each outfit. For Bolton, it is a chance to overhaul Burnley while for Burnley, it is an opportunity to widen the gap. Surely, both outfits will be looking for three points in this midweek Premier League affair – a draw would setback their league campaign.

However, there can be only one winner in this match. According to the market, 19th placed Bolton is that winner – at least, if their heavily backed odds for the win are anything to go by. Burnley, at the same time, are hugely disadvantaged, listed as large puppies.

So is the betting on this match going to be as straightforward as the market suggests? Here is a look at the market and the lowdown on these two struggling outfits.

Soccer Betting Line:

Bolton Wanderers -½ -130 -130 2½ O -105 U -115 Draw +235
Burnley +½ +110 +400 2½ O -105 U -115 Draw +235

Match Time: 03:00 PM EAST Tuesday January 26, 2010

Soccer Betting Verdict: Bolton are 19th in the table with 18 points; however, they had two league matches postponed and are only on 20 cycles. Their first outing in 2010 saw them come up against Arsenal FC and they lost 2:0 – surprise, surprise.

Although it must have been disheartening to start the New Year with a loss, I cannot imagine they had expected to get more out of the Gunners than they did. I mean, the Gunners are having an incredible season this year and were at the top of the table last weekend. Coming away empty-handed was all they were expected to do. So it really shouldn’t knock a bother out of them.
This match, against Burnley, is where Bolton really should strike for the three points. They are well matched, if not considerably stronger than the promoted outfit. Therefore, Bolton to win at -130 is shaping up to the favourite play in the market.

That said, Bolton have been very inconsistent this season and while many would have them ranked higher in the table, I am not sure their problems are over.

It helps that Burnley have not won a single match on the road this season. Surely, they cannot continue winless on the road all season long. Maybe Burnley breaking duck here at +400 is well worth the risk. I mean they have to end the negative trend at some point and what better side to do so against than a lost Bolton Wanderers. Heck, at least it is worth a small risk in my opinion.
In terms of the handicap, the popular play is Bolton to cover the spread at -1/2 -130 but Burnley to cover the spread at +1/2 +110 offers more value. The totals, I fancy the Under 2 ½ -115.
