Preakness Day Daily Double Horse Bet Starts in Race 11

May 14, 2010

The daily double is one of the forgotten horse betting wagers.

Surprisingly, it can still yield serious profits.

For instance, the daily double on the day of the Kentucky Derby two weeks ago, with General Quarters winning the Woodford Reserve Classic and Super Saver winning the Kentucky Derby, paid $294 for a $2 horse bet.

The daily double in Race 11, the Grade II Dixie Stakes, and Race 12, the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Racecourse on Saturday shouldn’t pay nearly that much, but it should still pay north of $40 for a $2 bet.

That’s a pretty good return on a $2 buck investment.

Preakness Stakes: Preakness Daily Daily Double

  • Where: Pimlico Racecourse
  • When: May 15th, 2010
  • Gates open at 8:00 a.m. EST. First post is 10:30 a.m. EST.
  • Preakness Post Time is 6:05 pm EST.

1st Leg: Race 11 – Grade II Dixie Stakes

Race-time: 5:12 pm EST

Horses Used: 1-Wesley, 4-Just As Well, 6-Picou, 8-Strike A Deal, 9-Nicanor

1-Wesley – - Should save all of the ground from his nice inside post and finished 3rd in this race last year.

4-Just As Well – - The class of this field finished 2nd in this race last year. He’s earned over $1.042 million.

6-Picou – - He comes into this off of a stellar victory in an $85,000 stakes race at Tampa Bay Downs and could add tons of value to the double.

8-Strike A Deal – - Finished 6th in last year’s Grade II Dixie but lost by only 2 ½ lengths. He’ll be forgotten in the betting and adds value.

13-Nicanor – - Barbaro’s little brother might not be taken seriously because he breaks from the 13 hole, but if he gets an easy lead, the rest of this field can wave him goodbye.

2nd Leg: Race 12 – Grade I Preakness Stakes

Race-time: 6:12 pm EST

Horses Used: 8-Super Saver

Super Saver should have no trouble beating a suspect group of his peers in the second jewel of the Triple Crown. The race should really set up for him and he’s improved in each of his starts in his career.

The Kentucky Derby winner can either lead or stalk and should take over at the top of the stretch and pull away no matter what any other horse behind him is doing.

Combinations: 5

$12 Daily-Double: $60
