Play of the Day from Del Mar Racetrack

August 3, 2009

Horse Pick of the Day: Del Mar Race 6

Race-day: 7/25/2009

Race-time: 7:35 pm est.

It’s hard to stay away from Del Mar for horseplayers when the payouts keep getting better and better. Sometimes, betting races on Polytrack can be intimidating for horse racing betting fans.

But Del Mar’s Polytrack appears to produce both figure horses and long shots.

Let’s take a look at Race 6 at Del Mar on Saturday.

Del Mar – Race 6

Fleet Treat Stakes

$100,000

For California Bred or California Sired Fillies, Three Years Old

7 furlongs on Polytrack

Earstoyou – - 3/1 fair online betting odds

The Ron Hess trained filly is 2 out of 3 in the winner’s circle, and 2 for 2 on all weather surfaces. More importantly, she can either stalk or come from the clouds in this. Her works have been slow in anticipation of this, but her style, grinding it out until the finish line should fit perfectly at Del Mar. She will be tough.

Dani Reese – - 7/2 fair online betting odds

The undefeated daughter of High Demand should be the speed of the speed in this. If the Polytrack is playing fast on Saturday, then she’ll be tough to beat as no other filly in here sticks with her early. She broke her maiden at the 7 furlong distance which means she won’t have an issue with it and, like Earstoyou, she’s undefeated on the all weather stuff.

Saucey Evening – - 4/1 fair online betting odds

She’s 4 out of 5 in the money on all weather surfaces, including 2 victories, and she has a lot of experience for a three year old. She has a victory at the distance, has finished in the money in a Grade I, and comes out of the powerful Graham Motion barn. The problem is that she has to close from the clouds and there isn’t a whole lot of speed in this.

Wagering Strategy

I’m going to bet Earstoyou to win and place. I will also play an exacta and trifecta box with Earstoyou, Saucey Evening and Dani Reese.
