Pinal Appears to be a Solid Horse to Back with a Horse Racing Win Bet at Fairplex
September 10, 2010
Backing the Ron Ellis trained and Alonso Quinonez ridden Pinal in Race 10 at Fairplex with a horse racing bet, might be a good way to start the weekend off profitably.
Pinal, winner of 4 out of 11 races and over $110,800 bucks, will most likely go off as the second or third choice in the race after Killer Bear and the Jeff Mullins trained Danzip, but Pinal has something that those other two horses do not.
He’s got a pace edge over Killer Bear and Danzip making him one of the more solid plays of the day.

Fairplex Park – Friday
Where: Fairplex – Race 10
When: September 10th, 2010 at 8:30 pm EST
TV: TVG
Jim Kostoff Stakes
Purse $50,000. Three-Year-Olds.
7 furlongs over dirt
pp.5 – Pinal – - 5/2 fair betting odds
That pace edge I was describing is the fact that Pinal is faster early on in races than likely front-runner Danzip and that the Fairplex race track almost always favors speed making Killer Bear’s closing kick a non-issue. Jockey Alonso Quinonez could decide to take on Danzip right out of the gate, wrestling the lead form that one early, or track Danzip until the top of the stretch.
Either way, Pinal figures to win this race easily. The six-figure winner is just too fast and too classy for this group. He deserves to be the horse to back with a big horse racing win bet in Race 10 at Fairplex on Friday.
pp.6-Bench The Judge – - 4/1 fair betting odds
If the Fairplex racetrack didn’t give such a big edge to front-runners and pressers, I’d probably put some money behind Bench The Judge to win this race on Friday. Bench The Judge goes first time for trainer Doug O’Neil. Well, not exactly.
This is Bench The Judges’ second go-around with O’Neil after O’Neil gave him up to Guy Smith over at Delta Downs. Owner Robert Master uses Smith in Louisiana. Now that he wants to run the horse back in SoCal, O’Neil takes charge again. When with O’Neil, Bench The Judge was quite impressive never finishing off the board in 5 races.
Bench The Judge won 2 out of those 5 races while with O’Neil. He could add to that total if he’s okay after losing by 44 lengths in the Grade III Delta Jackpot way back in December of 2009 and if he can keep Pinal close. If Bench The Judge goes off at odds anywhere north of 4/1, putting a horse racing win bet on him wouldn’t be the worst thing a person could do.
pp.3 – Danzip – - 5/1 fair betting odds
There’s no question that if Pinal isn’t at his best that Danzip could take the lead in this race and never look back. The horse doesn’t appear to be as fast as Pinal on paper, but he moves from Douglas Grinold’s barn to the barn of Jeff Mullins. Mullins is a master with these front-running types.
He’s already put some blistering works into Danzip over the cushion track at Hollywood Park. Not only that but Danzip is 5 and 1 out of 6 races. He’d be the pick to win if Pinal weren’t in this race.
Horse Wagering Strategy
Pinal, if Ellis has him ready, should win this easily. I’m going to bet on Pinal to win. I will also bet an exacta with Pinal over Danzip and Bench The Judge.
I will reverse the exacta for less.
Good luck!
