Pick 3 of the Day on Thursday Starts in Race 6 at Hollywood Park

June 9, 2010

The best Pick 3 on Thursday starts in Race 6 at Hollywood Park and ends in Race 8.

All three legs figure to be won by horses that are either long shots or non-favorites.

Thursday’s Pick 3 is not for the faint of heart, though, as it requires a bit more monetary investment than a lot of horseplayers might be comfortable with.

But if it hits, it should pay out big time!

Thursday’s Pick 3

Hollywood Park – Races 6 thru 8

  • Where: Inglewood, CA
  • When: Race 6 (Leg 1) – 6:36 pm EST
    Race 7 (Leg 2) – 7:07 pm EST
    Race 8 (Leg 3) – 7:37 pm EST
  • TV: TVG

Race 6 (Leg 1)

Claiming $16,000 For Fillies and Mares Three Year Olds and Up

6 ½ furlongs over cushion track

Horses Used: 2-Halfapondarosa, 4-Princess Susan M, 6-You Can Dream, 7-Cherie’s Dream

Analysis: The three favorites according to the morning betting line are also the three front-runners that should set this race up for one of the closers. Halfaponderosa drops in class and goes 3rd time for trainer Steve Knapp. Princess Susan M blew it at 7 ½ furlongs going up in class but drops back to the level and distance where she finished 2nd two races ago.

You Can Dream is another that drops in class and could, potentially, be in the garden spot off of the likely three front-runners turning for home. Cherie’s Dream is a straight closer that should get the pace she’s been begging for in this.

She’s won twice out of three races at Hollywood Park.

Race 7 (Leg 2)

Allowance $43,000n$y For Three Year Olds

6 furlongs turf

Horses Used: 2-Sirocco Strike, 4-Fandino, 5-Majestic Peak

Analysis: Sirocco Strike is coming off of a maiden victory but because of the likely pace, this race should set up beautifully for his closing kick. Fandino has the ability to lead, if the pace surprisingly comes up soft, or lay a length or two off. Jockey Rafael Bejarano should have Fandino in perfect position turning for home.

Majestic Peak doesn’t look like much in his past performances but trainer Craig Dollase wins for a +.32 cents ROI with his first time turf starters and Majestic Peak should relish the lawn based on his breeding.

Race 8 (Leg 3)

Maiden Claiming $25,000 For Three Year Olds and Up

1 1/8 miles over cushion track

Horses Used: 1-Tribunal Blues, 4-Brooklyn Buddy, 5-Milty Way, 6-Tizexchange

Analysis: I’m looking for another price here in the 3rd leg of my Pick 3. Tribunal Blues ran very well going 1 1/16th miles on this track in his last. He sheds the blinkers and should get the perfect stalking trip breaking from the 1 hole. Brooklyn Buddy gets blinkers and stretches out after going 6 ½ furlongs in his last.

He could lead or stalk in this. Milty Way gets blinkers as well and should show more speed for trainer Doug O’Neil in this then he did in his last. He went off at 3.30 to 1 in his last race meaning that he was well meant. I’m not ready to bail ship just yet on this guy.

Tizexchange gets blinkers and could improve greatly off of his 5 ½ furlong loss in his last race. Hot jockey Martin Garcia rides.

4 x 3 x 4 = 48 combinations

$1 Pick 3 = $48

Good luck!
