Pick 3 Horse Bet – Friday Night’s Pick 3 Starts in Race 5 at Hollywood Park
May 28, 2010
Friday nights at Hollywood Park often times provide overlay horse betting picks for straight win and place wagers as well as exotic wagers.
For some reason, trainers and owners love to run their horses on Friday night.
Hopefully, the three races for my Pick 3 on Friday night will provide great horse wagering value.
I’ll be trying to beat some strong looking chalk in my Pick 3 sequence on Friday night.
Friday Pick 3
Hollywood Park – Races 5 thru 7
- Where: Inglewood, CA
- When: Race 5 (Leg 1) – 11:57 pm EST (8:57 pm PST)
Race 6 (Leg 2) – 12:25 am EST (9:25 pm PST)
Race 7 (Leg 3) – 12:53 am EST (9:53 pm PST) - TV: TVG
Race 5 (Leg 1)
Optional Claiming $25,000n2L For Fillies and Mares Three Year Olds and Up
6 furlongs over cushion track
Horses Used: 2-Costa Marta, 6-Amina
Analysis: Costa Marta should get a perfect trip lying behind the speed of Sugar Spike, Hard Eight and R.C. Storm. Costa Marta should improve in her second race after almost a year lay-off. Amina has these over a barrel if she’s fit enough. She hasn’t run since August of 2009 and might need a race before showing her best.
Still, she goes first time for 32% winning trainer Mike Mitchell. That’s a 24% winning move for the Mitchell barn.
Race 6 (Leg 2)
State-bred Allowance $43,000n$y For California Bred or California Sired Three Year Olds and Up
7 ½ furlongs over cushion track
Horses Used: 3-Scofield Barracks, 5-Holladay Road, 7-Killer Bear, 11-Adam Suances
Analysis: There is a ton of speed in this race which is why Scofield Barracks is a must use in the Pick 3. Barracks only needs a clean trip and the right pace set-up to be right there at the end. Holladay Road should be in the garden spot throughout and could be tough to deny if he’s the one they all have to chase down in the stretch.
Killer Bear ran the best race of his life in his last after the jockey switch to F.S. Valdez. If Bear doesn’t bounce, he’s an attractive play at a price. Adam Suances will have to negotiate a trip after breaking from the 11 hole, but he is 2 for 2 over Hollywood Park’s cushion track and 2 and 1 out of 9 lifetime races overall.
Race 7 (Leg 3)
Allowance $44,000n$y For Fillies Three Years Old and Up
1 mile over turf
Horses Used: 2-El Nadia, 3-Lady Francesca, 6-Americas Dreaming, 7-Entabeni, 8-Ruffled Feathers
Analysis: El Nadia responded beautifully to the jockey switch to Rafael Bejarano in her last by finishing 2nd. That race was at 1 1/16th miles. This mile distance actually suits her better and Bejarano got to know her. Lady Francesca went off in the air as soon as the gates opened in her first start in the states.
She’s a $349,000 buy sired by Montjeu meaning that she should, not that she will but that she should, win this race. Americas Dreaming has finished 2nd in 3 straight races. Now, she goes first time for trainer John Sadler. Sadler wins at a 22% rate first time.
Entabeni stretches out to a mile after running in a 6 ½ furlong sprint down the Santa Anita hill course. Entabeni’s lone mile race over the turf was much better than it looks on paper. She’s got a long shot’s chance. Ruffled Feathers has been in excellent form with 2 wins, 2 seconds, and 2 third place finishes in her last 6 starts. She can definitely beat these.
2 x 4 x 5 = 40 combinations
$1 Pick 3 = $40
Good luck!
