Pick 3 at Turf Paradise – Worth Betting Because of Odds

February 2, 2010

Horse Racing Pick 3 Of the Day:

1 st Leg: 5:20 pm EST

Turf Paradise in Phoenix, AZ has really improved lately. It’s always been a beautiful racetrack, but recently, just recently as a matter of fact, the tiny track in the desert has increased the number of horses that enter into their races dramatically.

Now, the quality of those animals is nothing to write home about. Us horseplayers don’t care, of course. Whether we cash a ticket on a horse running in a Grade I race or on a horse running in a $3,200 claimer doesn’t matter to us. We just want to cash tickets on overlays.

Below is what could be an incredibly profitable Pick 3 on Tuesday.

Turf Paradise Pick 3

Race 7

$3,200 Claiming For Four Year Olds and Up

6 furlongs on dirt

Horses Used: 1-Stammer, 3-Big Game Plan, 6-Cat’s Gold, 7-Speedway

Analysis: Stammer lost by 26 ½ lengths in his last race but look closer and one realizes that jockey V. Baze eased the horse after the 2 nd call. Stammer should bounce back to the form that led to a victory two races ago. Big Game Plan takes a race off and then runs well and then takes a race off. The horse took a race off last time when finishing 4 th and losing by 5 ¾ lengths so it should run well in this race. Cat’s Gold lost by only a nose going 5 ½ furlongs in its last race. Gold figures to keep its good form going in this while dropping slightly in class. Speedway is a closer going for 37% winning trainer Mike Chambers. The jockey that helped it bust out its best speed rating in its last 6 races, A. Vonrosen sticks with it.

Race 8

$16,000 Claiming For Four Year Olds and Up

7 ½ furlongs on turf

Horses Used: 3-Green Secret, 5- Mister Merz, 6-Elusive Pleasure, 7-Smart Time,

Analysis: It’s all about the droppers in this leg of the Pick 3 as Green Secret, Mister Merz, and Smart Time are dropping from the $20,000 claiming level to this $16,000 claimer and Elusive Pleasure is dropping from a $13,000 allowance to this claimer. Smart Time drops back to a distance where it has been successful before with 4 victories out of 8 lifetime runs. Smart Time is also 5-3-1 out of 15 lifetime races on Turf Paradise’s grass course. Mister Merz has been even more successful at the distance than Smart Time having gone 2-2-1 out of 5 lifetime races at 7 ½ furlongs. Mister Merz has 2 victories over Turf Paradise’s turf course. Green Street goes second time for trainer Sam Alton. Not only did Green Street produce the best last out speed rating of any of the contenders in this but the horse also won 2 races and finished second in its last three. Elusive Pleasure could be very tough in this. Its trainer, Dennis Sowers, is 54% with his 1 st at route runners, 39% with his dirt to turf runners and 28% with his turf starters.

Race 9

$3,500 Claiming n2L For Fillies and Mares Four and Up Which Have Never Won Two Races

6 ½ furlongs on dirt

Horses Used: 8-Mother’s Sauce, 11-A Real Jewel

Analysis: Mother’s Sauce stretches out another furlong from 5 ½ to 6 ½ in this and should be better for it. The Steven Myadi trainee lunged, stumbled and got out of the gate late before making a decided run to finish second in its last. Myadi wins with 36% of his beaten favorite horses and jockey G.W. Corbett is winning at a 21% clip at the meet. A Real Jewel goes from trainer Holly Evans to trainer Keith Bennett. Bennett put a scintillating 3 furlong work at 34 and 2 into A Real Jewel on January 29 th. Bennett is also winning with 30% of the horses that start for him first time. Overall, he’s winning at a 38% clip at the meet.

Combinations: 4 x 4 x 2 = 32

$1 Pick 3 = $32
