Phoenix at Philadelphia – Can the Suns Keep it Going?
February 9, 2009
Game-day: 2/9/2009
Tip-off: 7:00 pm est.
The Phoenix Suns tackle the Philadelphia 76’ers in a game where both teams will be trying to regain some lost stature. For the Suns, beating the Detroit Pistons on Sunday night was a big step in the right direction. Phoenix needed to show that they could beat a decent team on the road and they did it by leaning heavily on all of their starters. Shaquille O’Neal, Steve Nash, Jason Richardson, Grant Hill and Amare Stoudemire all scored in double figures against the Detroit Pistons. For sports betting fans, the Suns have been a huge disappointment this season going 17-29-2 against the BetOnline online betting spread. They’ll be trying to make it two in a row against the spread when they face the 76’ers on Monday night.
Philadelphia has been an up and down team all season. Their straight-up record isn’t anything for NBA betting fans to smile about at 25 and 24 and their against the spread record isn’t going to make basketball betting fans rich at 24-23-2, but they’re a solid Eastern Conference team when it comes to games against a squad like the Suns.
Here is the NBA betting line for this game:
Over/Under 211 -110
Phoenix Suns +3 ½ -110
Philadelphia 76’ers -3 ½ -110
Here are a few online wagering trends that might help us find a good online bet in this game:
The Phoenix Suns are 3-8-1 against the spread in their last 12 games versus a team from the Eastern Conference.
The Phoenix Suns are 4-10-2 against the spread in their last 16 games overall.
The Philadelphia 76’ers are 7-1-2 against the spread in their last 10 games following an against the spread victory.
The Philadelphia 76’ers are 11-4-2 against the spread in their last 17 games overall.
The Suns are going into Philadelphia after fighting hard and beating the Detroit Pistons on Sunday night. In back to back games, the Suns just aren’t very good against the spread.
Philly has the right mix of inside and outside players to disrupt the Suns. But that’s not the reason I like Philadelphia against the spread. I like Philadelphia because the Suns are old and asking them to come up with another terrific game a night after facing Detroit is asking too much.
This is true for Shaq, Nash and Hill.
I’ll be making an online bet on the 76’ers to cover the spread.
