PGA Tour – Tournament Matchup Golf Bets for The Memorial
June 2, 2010
Tiger returns this week at The Memorial Tournament. El Tigre won The Memorial in 2009 and, by all accounts, should be fit and ready to take home the trophy again in 2010. Because of his ongoing issues, however, Tiger isn’t as big of a favorite in the golf sportsbook as he normally would be.
The lack of real confidence in Tiger has made him an attractive online golf wager in almost every single betting category for The Memorial. That includes the Tournament Machups category.

Tournament Matchups
- Phil Mickelson -110 vs. Tiger Woods -120 – - This is a no-brainer to me. You’ve got one guy that is having trouble off of the tee and the other guy who is the defending champ. The guy having trouble off of the tee is Lefty. The guy who is the defending champ is El Tigre. I know, El Tigre’s having issues, but when have sports gamblers ever seen such great golf odds on him to put a beat down just on Phil?
Golf Bet: Tiger Woods -120
- Ernie Els -140 vs. Rory McIlroy +110 – - Ernie hasn’t been awesome lately, but at least he’s been making the cut. Rory’s missed the cut in 3 out of his last 4 tournaments started. He needed a final Saturday and Sunday of 128 (that’s 66 and 62) in order to win the Quail Hollow. I doubt that Rory’s ready to do that again. Ernie all the way in this matchup.
Golf Bet: Ernie Els -140
- Adam Scott -125 vs. Geoff Ogilvy -105 – - Yes, Scott won the Valero Texas Open after finishing 26th at The Players Championship, but Ogilvy appears to be getting his swing back as well with a 13th at the Crowne Plaza Invitational last week. Geoff’s also finished in the Top 10 at The Memorial in the past three years.
Golf Bet: Geoff Ogilvy -105
- Tim Clark -115 vs. Robert Allenby -115 – - This is a tough one to call because Clark won The Players Championship. Clark followed that victory up, however, with a 56th at the Crowne Plaza Invitational. Allenby is #1 in all-around ranking. He’s the guy I’m backing in this matchup.
Golf Bet: Robert Allenby -115
- Kenny Perry -125 vs. Steve Stricker -105 – - Perry is sitting on 3 straight Top 25 finishes, but I’m still not sure if he’s back to where he was in 2008 and 2009. Stricker hasn’t done very well since an 8th place finish at the Transitions Championship on March 21st, but Stricker was the #2 ranked player in the world at one time. I’m going with him.
Golf Bet: Steve Stricker -105
- Jim Furyk -105 vs. Tiger Woods -125 – - Furyk finished 2nd in the 2009 Memorial Tournament, just a stroke off of El Tigre. Still, El Tigre really, really wants to win this tournament to prove to the world that he’s back. I don’t think he’ll lose to Furyk.
Golf Bet: Tiger Woods -125
- Ernie Els -115 vs. Tiger Woods -115 – - These two guys don’t really like each other. Els has had a better 2010, obviously, but Tiger is Tiger. I have to go with Woods again because of the golf odds and I just believe he’s going to have a fantastic tournament this week. Els hasn’t been playing exceptionally well as it is and with both of them possibly bouncing back to their best, the nod goes to Tiger because he has more at stake in this tournament than Els does and, again, Tiger is Tiger.
Golf Bet: Tiger Woods -115
