PGA Tour – Is Padraig Harrington a Good Golf Bet to Finish in the Top 10?
June 24, 2010
Good old Padraig Harrington usually starts to play well at this time of the year.
After a better than it looks 22nd place finish at the U.S. Open last week, Paddy travels to TPC River Highlands as the chalk in the golf sportsbook to win the Travelers Championship.
He’s also a huge favorite in the sportsbook to finish in the Top 10 at the Travelers.
Paddy may be the favorite but is he the best bet in the Top 10 category?
PGA Tour: Travelers Championship
- Where: TPC River Highlands, Cromwell, Connecticut
- When: June 24th thru June 27th, 2010
- TV: The Golf Channel and CBS
Top 10
Best Golf Bet A: Hunter Mahan +150
Great golf odds in the sportsbook are to be had on Mahan who has finished 2nd, 1st, 2nd and 4th the last 4 years at TPC River Highlands. Mahan is also the all-time money leader on the course.
I’ve got the feeling that Hunter circled the dates for the Travelers Championship at the beginning of the year. A Top 10 finish is almost assured.
Best Golf Bet B: Ryan Moore +220
After missing the cut at the Crowne Plaza Invitational, Ryan Moore finished 5th at the Memorial Tournament. He didn’t play at either the St. Jude Classic or the U.S. Open.
All it means is that he should be geared up for a top effort this week at the Travelers Championship.
Oh, yes, his 4th place finish and 17 under at the Travelers in 2009 also helps his cause in this golf betting category.
Worst Golf Wager: Padraig Harrington -120
Out of the 12 tournaments in which he’s played so far on the PGA Tour in 2010, Paddy has finished in the Top 10 only 3 times. He’s missed the cut in 3 other tournaments so far this year and has finished 16th or worse in 6 other tournaments.
Can Paddy finish in the Top 10 in this tournament? Sure, he can! But is he worth a bet at -120? Heck no, he’s not!
Best Underdog Golf Bet: John Merrick +1200
He hasn’t finished in the Top 10 in any tournament so far this year. In fact, his best finish was a 25th at the Sony Open way back in January. He did, however, finish 11th last year at the Travelers Championship.
He was oh so close to the Top 10 last year…maybe, he actually gets into the Top 10 this year! Hey, there’s a reason sports gamblers are getting +1200 on this guy in the golf sportsbook!
Others to Consider
Justin Rose +120 – - 3 Top 20 finishes in 6 starts at TPC River Highlands and a victory at the Memorial Tournament this year gives him a great Top 10 shot.
Scott Verplank +300 – - Owns the course record of 61 at TPC River Highlands with 4 other golfers and has finished 5th in 2 out of his last 3 tournaments played.
Ryan Moore +220 – - Finished in 4th place in 2009 with a 17 under. Also finished 5th at the Memorial in his last start.
Bubba Watson +400 – - He finished 14th at the Travelers in 2009 but did finish 6th in this tournament in 2008. He’s also the PGA Tour leader in distance off of the tee.
This week the PGA Tour heads to Cromwell, Connecticut for the Travelers Championship! Log onto the golf sportsbook and bet the Travelers!
