PGA Tour – 72 Hole Group Betting for the Travelers Championship
June 24, 2010
Kenny Perry is the defending Travelers Championship winner, but all eyes will be on Padraig Harrington to win the tournament.
Paddy’s the favorite in the golf sportsbook to take home the Travelers Championship trophy.
He’s also the favorite in 72 Hole Group Betting to win his individual group.
Is he a good golf bet to win his individual group?
PGA Tour: Travelers Championship
- Where: TPC River Highlands, Cromwell, Connecticut
- When: June 24th thru June 27th, 2010
- TV: The Golf Channel and CBS
72 Hole Group Betting
Group A: Padraig Harrington +250, Justin Rose +300, Hunter Mahan +350, Bo Van Pelt +400, Matt Kuchar +400
Analysis: A case can be made for each golfer in this group to win it. Paddy is the lone real throw out because besides the 22nd at the U.S. Open, he just hasn’t been all that great this year.
He missed the cut at TPC Sawgrass and finished in 56th place at the St. Jude Classic.
I actually like Mahan in this group because he’s the all-time money earner at TPC River Highlands and has finished 2nd, 1st, 2nd and 4th in the past 4 years. He’s the pick.
Golf Bet: Hunter Mahan +350
Group B: Kenny Perry +300, Stewart Cink +300, Adam Scott +350, Retief Goosen +350, Ryan Moore +350
Analysis: Neither Perry nor Cink has really gotten on track this year. They’re both underlays at the golf betting odds. Scott has a victory in 2010, but he’s not the most consistent guy on the PGA Tour, that’s for sure. Goosen didn’t play in this tournament last year.
That’s why Moore is the pick in this because he finished at 17 under and in 4th place at TPC River Highlands in 2009.
Golf Bet: Ryan Moore +350
Group C: Ben Curtis +300, David Toms +350, Brian Gay +350, Rickie Fowler +350, Scott Verplank +350
Analysis: Fowler missed the cut at the Travelers in 2009. Gay did well to shoot a 9 under for the tournament. Toms finished 2nd at -19 and Curtis finished 4th at -17. Verplank finished 4th as well at -17. This is a tough group.
Verplank gets the nod because he finished 5th in 3 out of the last 5 tournaments started.
Golf Bet: Scott Verplank +350
Golf Bet D: Jeff Overton +300, Ricky Barnes +300, Brandt Snedeker +300, Bubba Watson +350, Vijay Singh +350
Analysis: Snedeker played very well at the U.S. Open last week. Overton, Barnes and Singh are throw outs in my mind because Watson shot a 63 in the final round at the 2009 Travelers Championship.
To me, it comes to down to whether or not Snedeker can follow up his good finish at the U.S. Open with another terrific tournament this week. I don’t believe that he can. I’m going with Watson.
Golf Bet: Bubba Watson +350
