PGA Golf Betting – Maybe We Should Keep An Eye On Duval
February 10, 2011
Those people who like to engage in PGA golf betting will be watching some of the world’s best players this week at the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, and though admittedly David Duval isn’t one of the best at the moment, it might make some sense to keep an eye on him as he proceeds in this event, based on his effort last year.
In the PGA golf betting odds for this event, Dustin Johnson is listed as the +500 PGA betting favorite, with Phil Mickelson posted at +550 odds. Duval brings a price of +7000.

Maybe it’s time to give David Duval a bit of a chance, something that most PGA golf bettors, or the oddsmakers, are doing, as reflected with the 70/1 odds that are being placed on him. Duval, the 2001 British Open champion, has been trying his best over the last couple of years to approach the form he had when he was the #1-ranked player in the world. His fall was dramatic, with several factors accounting for it, including a series of injuries and personal problems.

From 2003 through 2010, Duval has missed the cut in 96 of 146 tournaments he played in, and fell off the radar of most PGA golf betting fans, but there have been flashes of brilliance along the way. In 2009 he came out of nowhere to tie for second in the U.S. Open. And when we say "nowhere," we mean it – he hadn’t scored a top 20 finish since; well, since the U,S, Open of 2006. Duval had a chance to win on the next-to-last hole, but failed to par the 17th hole at Bethpage Black, and lost to Lucas Glover. However, it wasn’t a bad consolation that he rose 740 places in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR).
When this tournament was played last year, Duval tied for second place, and was very consistent, shooting rounds of 67-68-67-69, which was a shock to the PGA golf betting public. Then he went back to his old routine, missing a lot of cuts, and it wasn’t until the Frys.com Open late in the year that he busted through for another top ten finish.
Now with fully exempt status, a result of finishing in the top 125 on the last year’s money list, Duval has had an encouraging experience this year. After missing the cut in the Sony Open, he tied for 25th at the Bob Hope Classic and 17th at last week’s Farmers Insurance Open. His scoring average of 69.73 is the best he’s had for quite some time, and he is currently 12th on Tour in putts per round. Duval is gradually clawing his way up the ranks, now standing at #214 in the world. So don’t expect that he is ever going to be among the PGA golf betting favorites in a tournament until he brings himself up about 180 spots or so.
With eleven straight rounds of par or lower, and 17 of his last 21, Duval is someone who is a good candidate to show the consistency necessary to contend.
