Padres Continue Brewers Woes – MLB Picks

May 2, 2010

My Sunday afternoon MLB predictions take us to Petco Park where the Milwaukee Brewers  look to improve upon its 3-7 SU mark in the venue against the NL West leading San Diego Padres.

The Brewers have had their fair share of exciting games in 2010, but they entered Game 2 of this series on Friday night 9-13 overall and -$632 for MLB betting fans.

They’re 5-5 on the road (-$32).

The Padres are the 3rd best bet in all of baseball coming in just under $750 on the year.

Milwaukee Brewers vs. San Diego Padres

  • Game Date/Time: Sunday, May 2nd, 4:05 ET
  • Game Location: Petco Park, San Diego, CA
  • TV/Radio Broadcast: Fox-Wisconsin, 4SD, XM

Randy Wolf is the only starter in the Brew Crew’s starting rotation with a winning record on the young season. He enters his sixth start of the year 2-1 overall with a 3.34 ERA & 1.39 WHIP allowing 35 hits and 12 ER’s with a K/BB ratio of 22/10 through 32.1 total IP.

He tossed a gem his last time out against Pittsburgh limiting the Buccos to just two ER’s after scattering 10 hits through eight innings of work. Unfortunately, the victory went by the boards when Trevor Hoffman blew yet another save opportunity.

He’s proven to be a force in the Brewers offense going 6-for-13 on the year. While tossing for the Dodgers the last couple seasons, he led LA to three wins in six tries vs. SD.

Jon Garland tied his career high in strikeouts with 10 against the Florida marlins his last time out. He earned his second win of the season in that outing by limiting the Fish to just three hits and one ER through six IP.

He’s 2-2 on the year with a 2.57 ERA and 1.43 WHIP allowing just 25 hits and eight ER’s through 28 total innings of work.

He’s opposed the Padres twice in his career pitching for the White Sox and Diamondbacks, and led his team to victories in both instances.

MLB Insider Tip: Heading into Friday night’s game, the Padres had rattled off seven home wins in a row. This club is playing well in all facets of the game right now, and until further notice, I see no reason to start fading them.

Milwaukee has its problems in the pen, while the Padres rank amongst the top 10 in bullpen ERA and have converted six of nine save opportunities.

Well aware that this would be a homecoming for Trevor Hoffman if indeed he was called upon to close it out, but he’s in terrible form right now.

As stated earlier, Milwaukee hasn’t fared well at all in this ballpark having won just once in their L/5 trips.

With the Padres 9-2 the L/11 times they were installed home favorites in the -110 to -150 range, my MLB predictions are for them to possibly pull off the four-game sweep of the Brewers if in fact they’re in a position to do so late Sunday afternoon.
