Padres at Dodgers – Still Perfect at Home
May 2, 2009
The San Diego Padres (11-11 SU, 11-10 RL, 12-8-1 O/U) will be looking to snap a two-game losing streak in the BetOnline Sportsbook when they square off against their longtime division rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers (15-8 SU, 14-9 RL, 12-7-4 O/U) tonight at Dodger Stadium at 10 PM ET.
The Dodgers beat the Padres 8-5 in Thursday’s series opener as -150 favorites, while the 13 total runs played Over the 9.5-run O/U total.
Orlando Hudson went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer for the Dodgers while Adrian Gonzalez had two hits and drove in one run for the Padres.
Tonight, the Padres will hand the ball to right-handed staff ace Jake Peavy (2-3, 5.75 ERA) while the Dodgers counter with struggling lefty, Clayton Kershaw (0-2, 7.29 ERA).
Peavy, who has lost and six of his last seven starts at Dodger Stadium, was rocked in his last start, giving up five runs on just six hits in five innings in an 8-3 loss to Pittsburgh on Sunday.
The Dodgers’ Kershaw has also been pounded unmercifully in each of his last two outings, posting a 10.29 ERA while losing both starts. Kershaw gave up a career-high nine runs on eight hits in just 4.2 innings in a 10-4 loss to Colorado on Sunday.
Here is a look at tonight’s key trends, followed by my in-depth analysis and MLB Free Pick.

Analysis: With both starting pitchers struggling in a big way coming into tonight’s contest, I have to advise BetOnline MLB sports betting enthusiasts to take the Los Angeles Dodgers to win this game and cover the Run Line.
While these division rivals have split the last six meetings evenly, the Dodgers had won seven of the previous eight meetings against San Diego and should be able to extend that dominance if they can finally get a solid performance out of Kershaw and enough run support off San Diego’s Jake Peavy.
MLB Free Picks: Dodgers -1½ Runs/Over 8 total Runs
