PAC 10 Power Poll – Anyone’s Conference Now

September 22, 2009

After the Trojans saw their undefeated season go up in flames, the Pac-10 appears to be a wide open conference. Check out how BetOnline Sportsbook stacks up the squads through three weeks of play…

1. California Golden Bears (3-0 ATS, 3-0 SU) (LW: 1) – HC Jeff Tedford had to be grinning from ear to ear when he saw the final score in that Washington/USC game. His Bears took care of business last week, knocking off the Gophers by two TDs. RB Jahvid Best picked up all five TDs in the 35-21 victory, and he’s making his case for the Heisman Trophy early on this season.

Up Next: Away @ Oregon (-6.5)

2. UCLA Bruins (3-0 ATS, 3-0 SU) (LW: 2) – The Bruins have clearly turned it around, and barring a miserable Pac-10 season, they should go bowling this year. It’s all thanks to the defense, which ranks 16th in total yards (251.0) and 17th in points per game (12.7) allowed. Last week’s 23-9 victory was yet another display of what HC Rick Neuheisel is trying to accomplish in LA.

Up Next: Bye

3. Stanford Cardinal (2-1 ATS, 2-1 SU) (LW: 4) – The Cardinal opened up their home schedule with a resounding 42-17 victory over San Jose State. The second home game of the season is a significantly tougher test against the trendiest team in the conference. The whole nation should be watching this one closely, as these two teams can both surprise the conference and go to the Rose Bowl.

Up Next: Home vs. Washington (-7)

4. Washington Huskies (2-1 ATS, 2-1 SU) (LW: 6) – Welcome to the AP Poll, Washington! Imagine where the Huskies would rank if they had pulled off the upset against LSU in the first week of the season! As it is, HC Steve Sarkisian has already put his name in the hat for National Coach of the Year after U-Dub shocked the world by beating the mighty Trojans last Saturday.

Up Next: Away @ Stanford (+7)

5. Arizona State Sun Devils (1-0 ATS, 2-0 SU) (LW: 5) – If there’s a team that’s primed to pick up some payback this week, it’s Arizona State. HC Dennis Erickson has to be licking his chops at how bad Georgia’s defense has been of late, and the Sun Devils will be eager to exact some revenge for last year’s 27-10 home loss to the Dawgs. A 38-14 victory over the Warhawks was a good start last week.

Up Next: Away @ Georgia (+12.5)

6. USC Trojans (1-2 ATS, 2-1 SU) (LW: 3) – Is USC’s season effectively over? Yes, the Trojans can still make the Rose Bowl by running through the rest of the Pac-10 schedule, but barring a lot of help from many teams, Pasadena’s bigger January bowl game seems to be out of reach. Whether QB Matt Barkley is ready to go this week or not, doesn’t it feel like the Trojans can pick the final score against the worst BCS team in the nation?

Up Next: Home vs. Washington State (-44)

And the rest…

7. Oregon Ducks (1-2 ATS, 2-1 SU) (LW: 9)

8. Washington State Cougars (1-2 ATS, 1-2 SU) (LW: 10)

9. Oregon State Beavers (0-2 ATS, 2-1 SU) (LW: 7)

10. Arizona Wildcats (0-3 ATS, 2-1 SU) (LW: 8)
