Orlando Magic at Indiana Pacers – These Teams can Score

February 6, 2009

Orlando Magic vs. Indiana Pacers 7:00 PM

NBA betting action has breezed past the halfway point of the season, and BetOnline customers will have yet another chance to boost their bankrolls on Friday night when the red hot Orlando Magic (37-11, 32-15-1 ATS) head to Indianapolis to do battle with the Indiana Pacers (19-31, 26-22-2 ATS). This will be the fourth meeting of the season between these two teams. Just two weeks ago, the Magic dropped 135 points on the Pacers in a 24-point romp in Orlando. They are 3-0 SU and 2-0-1 ATS this year against Indiana, and are 5-0 SU and 3-0-2 ATS dating back to the middle of the ’08 campaign. Five of the L/6 between these teams has gone ‘over’ the ‘total’.

The Magic have crossed the 100-point barrier against Indiana in six straight meetings. That number is a magical one for Orlando and its sports betting backers, as it is now 26-2-1 ATS when scoring 100+ points this year, and just 6-13 ATS when it doesn’t. On Wednesday, the Magic reached that coveted 100-point line once again in a 125-96 pounding of the Clippers. It almost seems redundant to say, but C Dwight Howard went for yet another double-double, recording 12 points and 15 boards in a relatively quiet night. The star of the game was PG Anthony Johnson, though. Johnson, starting his first game of the season in place of the injured Jameer Nelson, led the Magic in scoring with a season-high 25 points.

Johnson will need to continue to carry Orlando, as Nelson will be out for at least the next month, and will likely miss the remainder of the season with a torn labrum suffered on Monday night against the Mavs. To respond, the Magic acquired PG Tyronn Lue from Milwaukee on Thursday, but it is unknown whether he will be available for HC Stan Van Gundy tonight.

The Pacers are reeling right now, as they have lost three straight games and are 0-2-1 ATS in that stretch. Four Pacers reached double-digits in points on Thursday night in Philadelphia, but it wasn’t enough for victory. The Sixers were victorious 99-94, but thanks to a late 4th quarter surge, Indiana salvaged a push on the NBA betting line. ‘Over’ bettors have been on fire this entire year in Pacers’ games. They’re a stunning 31-18-1 on the season. It should come as no surprise that the Pacers rank 4th in the NBA, averaging 104.6 points per game. It should also come as no surprise that the defense ranks 28th, allowing a whopping 107.0 points per contest.

With all of that in mind, it’s hard not to like another high scoring contest tonight. The number to reach for the ‘total’ tonight is a lofty 218, while oddsmakers have lined the Magic at -6.

NBA betting trends offer plenty of fuel to the ‘over’ fires. Indiana is 7-1 for ‘over’ bettors in its L/8 against the Southeastern Division, and is 14-3 towards the ‘over’ in its L/17 home games. Seven of Orlando’s L/9 roadies have eclipsed the ‘total’ as well.
