Online Sportsbook Betting Picks – Syracuse Hosts Brutal DePaul

March 5, 2011

The Syracuse Orange has experienced one of the more turbulent seasons of any ranked team in the country, and their online sportsbook betting backers have been caught in the windfall. The No.12 Orange Men can put that season behind them by thrashing DePaul in their last home game of the season, while staying relevant in a seriously stacked Big East Conference.

It’s been no secret that the Big East has been the toughest division in all of college basketball. The conference has eight ranked teams, including two top-10 teams in Pittsburgh and Notre Dame. The lowest ranked team is No.19 Villanova, and many could make the case that West Virginia and Cincinnati deserve some mention in the rankings as well.

The sportsbook betting community turned their backs on Syracuse at the onset of the season after the team opened up with a brilliant 18-0 SU record that was matched with an atrocious 5-9 ATS record during those games. In fact, Syracuse has never really been a strong play in the sportsbook and are just 5-11 ATS in their last 16 games at home this season. Those results certainly don’t weigh on the team as much as their investors, but it should alarm anyone when DePaul visits this weekend.

DePaul Blue Demons (7-22) vs. #12 Syracuse Orange (24-6)
Saturday, March 5th — Carrier Dome — 4:00pm EST

Online Sportsbook Betting Trends:

  • DePaul is 1-16 SU in last 17 games
  • DePaul is 5-2-1 ATS in last 8 games
  • Syracuse is 4-1 SU in last 5 games
  • Syracuse is 4-3 ATS in last 7 games

DePaul is by far the worst program in the Big East, and their 1-16 SU record when playing in the conference is living proof of that. They’re also not a great cover team but have their value in certain situations. They’re 6-4 ATS in the road this season, but the interior details of those metrics are what’s important for this game from a betting standpoint.

There’s no doubt that this line will open heavily favoring Syracuse, and DePaul has gone 8-4 ATS in games with double-digit spreads this year. Inversely, Syracuse is 1-7 ATS in 8 games when the spread has been greater than -10.0 points for or against them. Do the Blue Devils pose some sneaky value to you now?

They should. DePaul will get a monster line here, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this game reaches close to -20.0 for Syracuse. DePaul is just 1-5 SU and 2-4 ATS in their last 6 games against the Orange, but in the here and now, DePaul is a much more reliable take against the monster number than a Syracuse team that hasn’t been terribly reliable in online sportsbook betting all year long.

Furious Online Sportsbook Betting Pick – DePaul +16.5 or higher
