Online Sports Betting – Surging Boilermakers Have Earned Shot At Big Ten Title
March 5, 2011
When the No. 6 Purdue Boilermakers take to the hard court at Carver-Hawkeye Arena this Saturday, there is no doubt that they will be anxious for Sunday’s games to take place. Online sports betting sharps know that’s because their game against the Iowa Hawkeyes is scheduled for the same time that the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes are battling the No. 10 Wisconsin Badgers. Just one game separates Purdue and Ohio State at the top of the Big Ten standings, which means that a Boilermakers’ win combined with a Buckeyes’ loss would leave these programs to split the conference title.
Purdue Boilermakers @ Iowa Hawkeyes
Saturday March 5th – 4:00 PM ET
Carver-Hawkeye Arena, Iowa City, Iowa
Broadcast: ESPN
Online Sports Betting Odds:
It worked in their favor that the Boilermakers will play an Iowa team that has lost six games in a row. Purdue bounced the Hawkeyes 75-52 earlier this season, and although they no longer are in control of their own destiny a win would put them in position to earn some hardware.
Online Sports Betting: What Purdue Will Have To Do To Win
The Boilermakers will need their two best players to be exactly that once again, as JaJuan Johnson and E’Twaun Moore continue to prove themselves as one of the best tandems in the league. Johnson leads the team in both scoring and rebounding with averages of 20.5 points per game, and 8.0 rebounds, while Moore has been more of an all-around presence. The senior guard is second in scoring, rebounding, and assists and has been able to provide in the clutch all year. Those two combined for 41 in the Boilermakers’ most recent win over Illinois, and if they can put forward a similar performance they should have no problem rolling through Iowa.
Online Sports Betting: What Iowa Will Have To Do To Win
It won’t take a miracle for the Hawkeyes to pull out a win in their home finale, but it will take at least something along those lines. Iowa has lost six straight to fall to the bottom of the Big Ten standings alongside Indiana, and will now have to close out it’s the season against a team that is tougher than any they have faced during their current slide. Freshman forward Melsahn Basabe has been one of the team’s bright spots as they work towards next season, averaging 11.2 points and a team-high 6.9 rebounds. Matt Gatens leads the team in scoring with 12.6 points per game, but that number would have to be much higher for the Hawkeyes to keep this one close.
Outlook & Online Sports Betting Pick
The Boilermakers roll into Iowa looking to do their part in their pursuit of a Big Ten title, and while they may not get it if Ohio State comes out strong in their finale, that won’t make them any less motivated. Purdue will pull away early and finish with a huge win, and at least temporarily tie the Buckeyes in the win column.
