On their Shoulders – Hottest Pitchers in the AL

June 1, 2009

June baseball betting begins today! BetOnline Sportsbook presents to you this week’s top American League money pitchers that you should keep an eye on the next time to look to cash in on a baseball sports betting affair!

1) Matt Palmer, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (6-1, +$775) (LW: 1) There aren’t many pitchers that had a stranger week than Matt Palmer. He threw 31 pitches in relief on Tuesday, then came back and fired seven shutout innings in what was his best start of the season. Yet, the pitcher that led his team to a 6-0 record in his first six starts was let down by his bullpen, which conceded four runs in the 9th to blow it for him. Still, Palmer appears to be undervalued consistently, as he was a home underdog to the Mariners. Keep an eye on him.

2) Brian Bannister, Kansas City Royals (6-2, +$570) (LW: 2) The baseball betting gods weren’t on Bannister’s side either. He gave up seven runs (six earned) in just 5.0 innings of work, and had matters complicated when Sidney Ponson came in to give up four more. Still, he’s won seven of his L/9 starts dating back to last season, and should be considered every time he’s on the mound for the Royals.

3) Mark Buehrle, Chicago White Sox (8-2, +$551) (LW: 4) Another week, another ‘W’ for manager Ozzie Guillen’s top southpaw. He gave up three runs over 7.1 innings, but got a no-decision for his efforts. He still has yet to give up more than four runs in a start this season, and is on a heck of a run for ‘under’ bettors as well, having cashed that ticket six times in a row.

4) Andy Pettitte, New York Yankees (8-2, +$542) (LW: 6) It’s not often the Yanks are underdogs, but they found themselves in that spot with Pettitte on the mound this week in Cleveland. The lefty delivered with five strong innings of work, and used four spotless innings from the pen to preserve the victory. Pettitte hasn’t taken a loss since April 26th, and New York bettors are 5-1 in that stretch.

5) Justin Verlander, Detroit Tigers (8-3, +$530) (LW: NR) Since allowing seven runs against the Angels on April 22nd, Verlander has been on fire. He’s 6-0 with a 1.30 ERA in his L/7 starts, and he’s led Tigers bettors to a 6-1 mark in that stretch. Verlander’s next start will come in Motown, a place where his Tigers are a perfect 4-0 (+$409) with him on the mound this season.

6) Scott Feldman, Texas Rangers (6-1, +$523) (LW: 7) Feldman has been as consistent as it comes since taking over as a starting pitcher towards the end of April. The Rangers are 6-1 in those starts, but even more impressive is the fact that ‘under’ bettors are a perfect 7-0! Feldman gave up just two runs over six good looking innings against the A’s last week, and is making a strong case to stay in Texas’ rotation for quite some time.

7) Vicente Padilla, Texas Rangers (6-2, +$445) (LW: 5) Padilla just barely hung on to his spot on the list of the top money pitchers. He’s set to return to the mound this week, but his first foe is slated to the red hot New York Yankees.

Back in the bullpen…

Tim Wakefield, Boston Red Sox (LW: 3)
