These nearby neighbors met in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl last year and Marshall ate the cheese as they beat the Bobcats 21-17 as a 3-point underdog. Now Marshall is a touchdown sports betting favorite against the Ohio Bobcats who were buried by Ohio State last week 43-7. The Bobcats could have trouble bouncing back after a physical beating that saw them gain just 158 yards offense on 48 plays, but Marshall is the right opponent to gain confidence against.
Marshall was also buried by the Buckeye’s on opening week while allowing 529 yards offense and 7.8 yards per play while generating just 199 yards net offense. Last week Marshall played a Mid-America team more to their level and were out-gained allowing 393 total yards and the ‘Herd fell behind 21-0 early in the 44-28 defeat. The Thundering Herd are off to an 0-3 start while yielding a season-high yards in every game. First year head coach Doc Holliday has to be concerned, and sports betting fans can’t feel too comfortable laying nearly seven points with a team that is winless and has been out-gained in each contest.

Turnovers have plagued both teams this early season as Marshall had five turnovers last week with two interceptions returned for touchdowns. Ohio has committed nine turnovers the past two weeks but we’re a much bigger supporter of proven head coach Frank Solich of Ohio than newcomer Doc Holliday at Marshall. The Thundering Herd are averaging just 18 points and rank 95th in the nation in total offense, averaging 313 yards per game. Tough to offer sports betting support for a struggling team in transition that cannot score consistently.
CFB bettors should also note that the Thundering Herd are allowing over 36 points per game while the Ohio Bobcats are allowing 290 yards per game having also played Ohio State and a Mid-American Conference team. Ohio is really struggling offensively with just 224 yards per game to rank 119th in the nation. The offensive line has under-performed and lacked continuity while the quarterback controversy continues with senior quarterback Boo Jackson and junior Phil Bates both failing to be productive or lead the offense.
NCAA Insider Tip: Marshall is 2-8 ATS recently against teams with a losing record. Ohio leads the series 29-18-6 straight up over Marshall. This match-up boils down to taking points with the better Ohio defense and a Marshall team laying too many points with a struggling offense in transition. In a regional rivalry and 54th meeting billed as the ‘Battle for the Bell, our sports betting support is on the Bobcats.
My NCAA Football Predictions: Ohio Bobcats +6.5 (-110)
