Of all the wacky, zany predictions one could’ve made when the Official NCAA Football Odds first came out in August, one of them would’ve had to be that in the first week of November, both Baylor and Oklahoma State would control their own destinies in the Big XII South. But that’s exactly the case for these two. If each wins out, they’ll play for a Big XII title. Crazy, huh?

For both it starts with a quarterback who puts up big numbers, the Cowboys Brandon Weeden and Baylor’s Robert Griffin.

Let’s start with Weeden, because of all the surprises in college football this year, he may be the biggest one. The 26-year-old former minor league baseball player has exploded onto the scene, and currently leads the nation’s third ranked passing attack. Weeden himself is tied for third in the country with 2,547 yards and is second nationally with 23 touchdown passes. And oh, by the way, this offense is so explosive that Kendall Hunter is fourth in the country in rushing yardage with 1,174. That should all explain why Oklahoma State is averaging 45 points per game.

Not to be outdone though, Weeden will be opposed by another stud in the pocket, Baylor’s Robert Griffin.

RGIII (as the kids call him) is having a phenomenal season himself, after missing almost all of 2009 with a knee injury. Although he isn’t running the ball nearly as much as he used to, he’s been passing it plenty. He’s one of only two quarterbacks (the other being Hawaii’s Bryant Moniz) who has topped Weeden’s passing totals, as Griffin has thrown for 2,592 yards on the season. He’s coming off one of his best games, in Baylor’s shocking win at Texas last weekend. In that game, he had 219 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Bears to the upset win.

While evaluating the Official NCAA Football Odds, what this game will ultimately come down to is which team can play better defense. There’s no doubt here that the edge goes to Baylor.

It’s not so much that Baylor has a phenomenal defense, as much as Oklahoma State’s has been exposed as average at best. Currently, they’re allowing 272 yards per game through the air, which ranks them at No. 113 in the country in pass defense. Could that mean a big day for Griffin and his receivers? Absolutely. Which is bad news if you’re an Oklahoma State fan.

But if you’re just a fan of college football, be sure to tune in, as this will be one of the most exciting games on the docket this weekend.

While Oklahoma State might win, it’ll be Baylor who covers the Official NCAA Football Betting Odds. Make the Bears your wager today!
