North Carolina vs LSU Game Tainted by Suspensions – College Football Betting
September 4, 2010
The College Football Betting game between #21 LSU and #18 UNC was shaping up to be one of the premier contests of the opening week, but after what has transpired in the last 24 hours, North Carolina is all but finished in this game. Not only that, but their season could even be in jeopardy as there are two separate investigations going on in regards to impermissible benefits given to players as well as an academic misconduct investigation.

The total number of players that have been declared ineligible or remain uncertain for Saturday’s contest has reached 15. Those who have been declared ineligible in terms of starters are: Marvin Austin, Charles Brown, Kendric Burney, Greg Little and Robert Quinn.
Backup defensive end Michael McAdoo has also been declared ineligible, while six others, including the UNC running back combo of Shaun Draughn and Ryan Houston, starting safety Da’Norris Searcy, and backups Linwan Euwell, safety Brian Gupton and safety Jonathan Smith have all been held out of action while the school and NCAA investigate the allegations.
The total number of games those 12 players are expected to miss has not been determined, as the NCAA’s investigation into possible improper contact with agents and academic misconduct continues.
This is a massive turn of events, and one that is a huge black eye for North Carolina. This is a program that has made so many strides in the past few years and now their entire season is in jeopardy.
Even if you could get a betting line on this game, you may as well bet the farm on LSU. Just to put it in perspective, North Carolina will be missing their leading receiver, the top three rushers, the top two punt returners, two of the top three interception leaders, and two of the top four tacklers. Butch Davis now has to go with their third and fourth guys on the depth chart at running back, third string guys will start at strong safety and right defensive end, not to mention all the juggling that will have to take place at other positions.
For LSU, they’ve caught a break as UNC would have come in as the College Football Betting favourite in this one. That has all changed and Les Miles should have his guys fired to up take it to this depleted Tar Heels team. It’s really just a shame as this contest was shaping up to be one of the top games of Week 1, but if UNC is able to somehow come up with the win, it will be the story of the year so far. I just wouldn’t put any money on that happening.
