NFL Spread Betting – Houston vs. Jacksonville
November 14, 2010
The Houston Texans take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 10 of NFL spread betting. These divisional rivals are schedule for an early game. Place your bets early to cash in on this AFC South slug fest – there should be lots of scores in this one.
Sunday, November 14 @ 1pm EST on CBS
Odds: Houston Texans (+1.5) vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (-1.5)
Total: 50
While both teams feature offenses that could go off at any time, they also feature defenses that just can’t stop the ball. Both teams have been involved in high-scoring affairs, so that’s why we see the highest total of the week: 50.

While 50 is high, these teams are more than capable of putting up at least 12.5 points (combined) per quarter. I doubt the gameplan for either team is to stop the offense on the other side – but to simply limit them and then outscore them.
Jacksonville is a dismal 5-15 against the spread in their last 20 games at home. I expect this trend to continue as the Texans are the stronger team. Arian Foster (top scorer in fantasy football) has been an absolute beast, giving Andre Johnson more favorable matchups in the secondary.
The Jaguars are giving up 119 yards per game on the ground (22nd in the league) and over 260 yards in the air (28th overall). The Texans are 7th and 12th on the ground and in the air and should put up a lot of points against the weak Jaguars secondary. If Arian Foster has a strong start, that will open play action and one-on-one coverage for Andre Johnson.
Both teams are 4-4 on the season but I’m giving the Texans the edge on the NFL betting spread as they have covered in 11 of the last 16 tilts. Jacksonville swept the series last year, but that was when Maurice Jones-Drew was more effective on the ground and David Garrard was having a more consistent year under center.
The Jaguars are coming off a bye week, but despite the rest, they’re only three weeks removed from embarrassing 42-20 and 30-3 losses to the Chiefs and Titans. Their last win was against Dallas, but UFL teams could beat Dallas.
This game will be high-scoring, but the Texans will prevail comfortably – winning straight up and against the spread. Cash in and take the small road dog in this divisional matchup.
