NFL Spread Betting – Detroit vs Green Bay
October 3, 2010
The Green Bay Packers are looking to bounce back after losing to the Chicago Bears in week 3. The team committed a team record 18 penalties, which cost them 152 yards against the Bears. Aaron Rodgers could only seethe as his offensive line was hit with seven penalties, including two false starts when the team on their own one yard line. The unfortunate victims of the Rodgers misplaced anger in week four will be the winless Detroit Lions as the two meet at Lambeau Field.
The NFL betting spread on this game has the Packers as -14½ point favorites. A bet on the underdog Lions will pay bettors +650 on the moneyline. The game total is set at 45 points.

Aaron Rodgers is proving that he’s an elite quarterback in the league. He’s completing 68.6% of his passes for 756 yards on the season. His passing yards should be higher but penalties have negated several plays. He’s thrown five touchdown passes and three interceptions.
Rodgers numbers will suffer a little, as they don’t have a steady running back after Ryan Grant was lost for the season with an Ankle injury.
Defensively, defensive end Clay Matthews has been a beast. His 15 tackles, 6 sacks and one forced fumbled earned him the NFC’s defensive player of the month award for September.
The Packers pass rush has been a big part in the team limiting opponents to just 144 yards a game and 260.7 yard of offense overall.
The Detroit Lions came into this season with hopes of turning things around. They have a stud Quarterback in Matt Stafford. They drafted the best defensive player in the draft, defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. They added good players on both sides of the ball and they really had fans hopes up for something different.
Unfortunately, the Lions lost Stafford in their opening game. The defense hasn’t stepped up the way they were expected to and the team sits at 0-3. The Lions are 2-1 against the spread, having kept their first two games close. They failed to cover last week after Adrian Peterson and the Minnesota Viking exploited them for the Vikings first win of the season.
When the NFL spread betting line is higher than two scores, I’m always a little leery to take either side. I often ask, is it high because the underdog will be blown out or is the line that high because the odds makers just want to deter action on a heavy favorite? Right now, the action on the NFL betting spread of 14½ favors the Detroit Lions 62/38%. As the line is still on the bad side of 14 despite the heavy Lions action, I’m going to fade the public and side with the Packers and their angry quarterback to win this game huge.
NFL Betting Pick: Green Bay Packers -14½
