Football Betting Odds:

New York: -3

For Tennessee, the season started about as well as anyone could’ve hoped for, as in Week 1 they blew out Oakland by a score of 38-13. But after an embarrassing home loss last weekend to Pittsburgh, Jeff Fisher’s squad was left scratching their heads.

The Titans open this one as a field goal underdog in the NFL Sportsbook, and if they’re to get the win Sunday, they’ll need a better effort from quarterback Vince Young.

Simply put, Young was abysmal in the Titans loss to Pittsburgh, completing seven of 10 passes, but also getting pick off twice before being replaced by veteran Kerry Collins. That on the heels of a 13 for 17 performance in Week 1. While Young has been named the starter for this weekend, it appears as though Fisher will have a short leash with him going forward.

To get a win Sunday, the Titans will also need a better effort than they got from running back Chris Johnson in Week 2. The superstar back was his usual great self in Week 1, rushing for 142 yards, but was held to just 43 against the Steelers. Going against an iffy Giants defense that gave up 160 yards rushing last week, Johnson could be in line for a nice bounce back week.

That’s because as much as things have changed in New York, they’re the same, at least when it comes to defense. This team is ranked 21st in the NFL is yards allowed per game, giving up 321 per contest so far. Last weekend was their worst outing of the season, where they were sliced and diced for big play after big play by Peyton Manning and the Colts. The final score in their 38-13 loss truly was as ugly as it looked.

Of course it certainly didn’t help that quarterback Eli Manning struggled immensely Sunday. Because of it, be careful before heading over to the NFL sportsbook and placing your wager on the Giants. New York’s quarterback has already thrown four interceptions this year, and against Tennessee’s No. 1 ranked defense (only 85 yards per game passing allowed), Manning could struggle.

And it’s for that exact reason that the only wager to make this weekend is on Tennessee to cover the three points in the NFL sportsbook.

For all the talk about Young’s struggles, he should be relieved to see this Giants defense that wasn’t all that good last year, and hardly seems improved in 2010. And when you factor in that Tennessee’s attacking, aggressive defense will likely keep this game in check, it seems a lot more likely that the Titans can sneak a win on the road. In particular, the Titans already have eight sacks this season, which has to be worrisome for Manning, who was sacked four times by Indianapolis last weekend.

Go ahead and head over to the NFL Sportsbook and get your wager in today on the Tennessee Titans getting three points. You won’t regret it!

The Pick: Tennessee +3
