NFL Sportsbook Betting – Favre and Vikings Go to Lambeau Field

October 24, 2010

Sunday night is the perfect time for some NFL Sportsbook betting as Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings head back to Lambeau Field to take on Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. As a primetime game, this Week 7 tilt should be one of the highlights of the wagering weekend.

Minnesota Vikings vs. Green Bay Packers
Sunday, October 24 at 8:20pm EST on NBC
Football Odds: Vikings (+3) at Packers (-3)
Total: 44

With all of the controversy surrounding Favre’s alleged ‘inappropriate text messages’, the media storm surrounding his return to Green Bay will be even bigger than ever before. When you factor in the soreness in his elbow, the Vikings’ issues this season and the coverage, things don’t look good for Minnesota – despite getting three points.

On the other side of the ball, Green Bay has been absolutely riddled with injuries this season. A concussion to Aaron Rodgers, Jermichael Finley on the IR and Clay Matthews missing time with a hamstring (probable for Sunday) have all contributed to a less than stellar season for the Pack.

Both teams have only covered twice this season (2-3 Vikings, 2-4 Packers ATS) but someone’s got to win this game, right? With Matthews returning to rush the passer, initially it looks like Green Bay will use their pestering defense to and home field advantage to cover this spread.

Green Bay has been a profitable 17-8 in their last 25 games against the NFC North in the NFL Sportsbook. They know their opponents and play strong football. Green Bay has been averaging almost 6 more points/game than Minnesota this season – and have scored 20, 28 and 34 at home this season.

Green Bay will get off the skids (they’ve lost two straight in OT) and dominate the Vikings. Minnesota has had trouble scoring against solid defenses (9 against New Orleans, 10 against Miami) and will be in tough here.

The redeeming factor for Minnesota is the rushing play of Adrian Peterson. With 553 yards (and 4 TDs) on the season, he will definitely test the league’s 21st best rushing defense.

Green Bay has 21 sacks and 7 interceptions. That kind of defensive pressure will ruin Favre’s return and profit for NFL bettors that take the Packers.

NFL Free Pick: Lay the Packers at -3 and watch their defense do the work, while Rodgers scores enough to get the decisive win at home.
