The great news for the Vikings last week was that Brett Favre threw for 446 yards last Sunday, coming alive to lead a 27-24 win over Arizona in overtime. Bernard Berrian had eight catches, as he got extra action with the departure of Randy Moss. The pass rush, which had been dormant with six sacks, got six more in four quarters against the Cards. They also hope to have Sidney Rice back in action. Rice had hip surgery during the pre-season, a move that raised some eyebrows and made him ineligible for the early part of the season as it put him on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list. Of course, the Vikings also failed to cover the number in the NFL sportsbook odds last week (as a a 7.5-point favorite), and that may not have been a good sign.
Also not a good sign is the tumult that exists in the Minnesota locker room. It has been revealed this week that the entire team had tuned out Brad Childress, and according to anonymous quotes from some players, they would just as soon he was fired. But they move ahead, playing for themselves, not for their coach. one interesting quote was, "We know that Childress doesn’t have our backs, so why should we have his? We’re playing for us, and we’re winning despite him." What else would one expect when a coach digs at his players in public?
Here are the head-to-head betting trends as they involve the NFL sportsbook odds on this game:
· Five of the last seven meetings have gone OVER the total
· Minnesota has won four of the last six meetings SU
· Four of the last five meetings in Chicago have gone OVER the total
· Chicago has won eight of the last nine meetings SU as the home team

Chicago likes to think it might have overcome some of its offensive problems during the bye week they had before traveling to Toronto. The Bears went through the whole game with Bills allowing just one sack and converted seven of 12 third downs, which was big for a team that had succeeded on just five of fifty tries over the previous five games. Yes, there were discouraging signs as well; the running game averaged 2.5 yards a carry outside of what Jay Cutler gained, and they didn’t put a lot of pressure on Buffalo quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Certainly there are factors that point toward Minnesota as an NFL sportsbook pick, namely, Adrian Peterson’s 122-yard lifetime average against the Bears and the edge Favre probably has over Cutler. It’s interesting, though, that the Bears are two games ahead of the Vikings in the division standings, yet they are the team that is getting points at home. I’m not sure this "everybody hates Childress" attitude is something that has necessarily united the Vikes. Chicago does indeed "bear" down when playing this opponent at home, winning eight of the last nine meetings at Soldier Field. And the Vikings need to show that they have a handle on winning games as the visitor, as they’ve come up empty in each of their last eight attempts. we’re taking the point at home with Chicago, the underdog in the NFL sportsbook odds.
