The Jacksonville Jaguars are NFL Sportsbook winners of three straight games, two of which ended in uber-dramatic fashion. Offensively, the Jaguars have put early season disappointment behind them and defensively, Jacksonville is playing some of their best football in years.
Jacksonville owns the 25th ranked passing game (200.30 yards per game) and the 6th ranked running game (135.30 yards per game). David Gerrard has seen a spike in production; particularly in his last three contests while Maurice Jones-Drew is enjoying a streak of three straight 100+ yard rushing games for the first time in his career. Last week, Jones-Drew combined for over 200 yards in a come from behind win against the Cleveland Browns.
Defensively, the Jags are still in the bottom third of most statistical categories. Despite only giving up 283 yards last week (103 on the final two drives), Jacksonville is 28th versus the pass (264.60 yards per game) and 19th against the run (112.20 yards per game). They created six turnovers last week and garnered six sacks along the way.
The New York Giants have experienced NFL Sportsbook losses, both on the score sheet and to their roster in the last two weeks. Hakeem Nicks and Steve Smith were both lost to injury in losses to the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles. The Giants will be forced to go with newly signed Michael Clayton, Mario Manningham and Derek Hagan.
New York’s offense is one of the more balanced units in the NFL. They rank 4th in total yards, 7th in passing (251.3 yards per game), 5th in rushing (138.20 yards per game and 7th in scoring (25.30 points per game). Eli Manning is 8th in the NFL with 2595 yards passing so far and is 3rd with 21 touchdowns but he has been responsible for 16 interceptions and five fumbles. He will be looking to rebound from a 208 yard passing performance against Philadelphia last week.
The running game has also been good, but is also responsible for its share of turnovers. Brandon Jacobs’ fumbling issues are well documented and it seems to have spread to the usually sure-handed Ahmad Bradshaw who fumbled twice last week. Last week, the rushing duo was responsible for just 61 yards on the ground – a bounce back game is inevitable.
The Giants defense is Top four in most statistical categories this season. They are 3rd against the pass (192.9 yards per game) and 4th against the run (89.5 yards per game). The Jaguars will be welcome relief to a unit that was responsible for containing Michael Vick last week.
NFL Online Betting Outlook:
The Jacksonville Jaguars are 5-2 SU in their last seven games. They are 4-11 SU on the road in their last 15 and 2-5 ATS in their last seven on the road. Jacksonville is 0-6 ATS on the road in their last six against teams with winning records.
The New York Giants are 5-2 SU in their last seven but are just 7-14 ATS in their last 21 games. The Giants are just 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games at home and are 2-7 ATS in their last nine as home favorites.
The Giants will look to re-establish their solid running game against a fairly vulnerable Jags run defense. Passing shouldn’t be a problem either against a porous Jacksonville secondary. The key will be ball security – something which the Giants have had troubles with. If they take care of the ball, and I think that they will, this should be an easy victory for the superior G-Men. I like New York to win huge here and to re-establish themselves as a contender in the NFC betting.
NFL Sportsbook Pick: New York Giants -7
