NFL Sports Book Play of the Week – Green Bay at Detroit

December 12, 2010

If you have been making NFL Bets on the Detroit Lions against the NFL Sports Book line every week, you’re killing it. The only team better than the Lions ATS is the St. Louis Rams.

This is the time of the year the NFL Championship teams gel after adapting to injuries and the many problems that are a weekly occurrence.

Green Bay Packers (8-4) at Detroit Lions (2-10) – Sunday December 12 at 1:00 ET

Ford Field (65,000) – Detroit, Michigan

NFL Sports Book Line:

Green Bay Packers (7-5 ATS) -6 ½ (ML -275)

Detroit Lions (8-3-1 ATS) +6 ½ (ML +235)

Over/Under Total – 46

The Lions almost came back to defeat the Packers at Lambeau October 3rd after being down 14 points in the third quarter. The Packers D held them to 4 field goals at the end for the 2-point victory there.

This Packer team is much better than the team Detroit faced earlier this season. I would expect the NFL Sports Book Pointspread to be over 7 in this game.

The Green Bay Packers are having a decent season, but they would actually be OUT of the playoffs if it were decided before this week’s games.

They’re one game behind Chicago in the NFC North and trail both the Saints and Giants for wild-card berths. Head Coach Mike McCarthy doesn’t talk playoff possibilities until his boys get 10 wins.

They are more than likely taking out the Lions this week in their quest for the NFL Playoffs. This would be the 11th straight victory over the Lions which would be a franchise record.

Detroit is down to their third string quarterback Drew Stanton who starts his second straight game this week. He could be in for a long day against a Packer pass defense leading the NFL the last 4 weeks.

The Packers allow an NFL low of 15.2 points a game, but they will also have receiver Calvin Johnson to control. He has a run of success against Green Bay with 23 catches totaling 327 yards and 7 touchdowns in the last four games he faced them.

Aaron Rodgers is the hottest QB in the NFL lately. In the last 4 games he has 11 touchdowns and 131.3 QB rating. He’s also averaging 308.0 yards passing in the last 4 and has thrown ZERO interceptions in the last 5 games.

The Packers main problem this year has been with their running game after losing Ryan Grant for the season. They’re hoping James Starks fills that gap and then fires through gaps against opposing defenses.

Starks had 18 carries for 73 yards against San Francisco last week, and the Pack is talkin’ a lot of smack about this kid. Running backs coach Edgar Bennett even claims he runs a sub 4.4 second 40 yard dash. NFL Sports Book Odds don’t usually have a truth or lie wagering option.

Even if this kid can be consistent from here on, the Packers are going to be very tough to beat with Rodgers doing so well. I know the Lions don’t have a chance, and the Pack won’t be nice here.

NFL Sports Book PLAY of the WEEK – Bet Packers -6 ½ over Lions.
