NFL Sports Betting – The Packers Are The Sunday Play To Make

December 11, 2010

It’s another NFL Sports Betting Sunday, and now is the time to get your wagers in! Can the Lions remain a favorite of bettors this weekend?

Green Bay Packers (8-4 SU, 7-5 ATS) at Detroit Lions (2-10 SU, 8-4 ATS)

Sunday, December 12: 1:00 p.m. Fox, Live from Ford Field, Detroit, MI

Football Betting Odds:

Green Bay: -7
Detroit: +7
Total: 46

That’s right, despite their measly 2-10 record on the season, Detroit has been a favorite of the sharp bettors this year, with their 8-4 record against the spread. While the Lions do nothing great, they do everything well, and could be a danger to Green Bay this week.

Still, last Sunday was another tough loss, in a season full of them for the Lions. In their matchup with the Chicago Bears, Detroit led 20-17 heading into the fourth quarter, but gave up a touchdown with eight minutes to go to lose yet another one.

The key this Sunday will be to get solid production from backup quarterback Drew Stanton. With injuries to former starters Matthew Stafford and Shaun Hill, it appears as though this is Stanton’s job for the time being. Last weekend he threw for 178 yards and a touchdown. Not terrible, but not exactly inspiring either.

As for Green, they enter this NFL Sports Betting matchup playing about as well as any team in the NFC. They’ve won five of their last six, including a resounding victory over San Francisco at Lambeau Field last Sunday afternoon.

And really, it all starts with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. While Rodgers has struggled at times, he’s saved his best performances for when his team has needed them most. Last Sunday was just the latest one, as he threw for 298 yards and three touchdowns, without a single interception. That was his fifth straight game without a pick, and his fourth straight with at least285 yards passing. He’s also thrown an impressive 11 touchdowns over that stretch as well.

And as much as we like the Lions and their story, we just don’t see any way they cover here.

The biggest problem for Detroit will very likely be their suspect defense, one that is giving up 349 yards and 25 points per game. With numbers like that, it’s hard not to see Rodgers going wild on them. Plus, although they were respectable against Chicago last Sunday, Detroit had two of their worst performances the two weeks before that. In losses to Dallas and New England, they gave up a combined 80 points. Ouch!

Simply put, Green Bay has too much Aaron Rodgers, and should have plenty of defense to stop a Lions team which will be entering this game with their third string quarterback under center.

When it comes to the NFL Betting Advice, the only wager to make is on Green Bay. You will not be disappointed.
