While most wouldn’t have expected it at the start of the season, after 12 games, the Chiefs enter this one with a comfortable two game lead in the AFC West standings. But to maintain that, they’ll need to beat a really solid San Diego squad Sunday night.
What remains interesting about these two teams and divisional rivals is just how differently they operate.
Starting with Kansas City, they enter this one with one of the most running games in the league. Back Jamaal Charles continues his run to an All-Pro selection, as currently he ranks third in the NFL with 1,137 yards on the ground. Although quarterback Matt Cassel has been effective at times, he’s still not nearly the signal-caller many expected him to be when the Chiefs traded for him two years ago. On the year, Cassel is completing just 59 percent of his passes, but does have 23 touchdowns.
The Chiefs NFL Sports Betting opponent on Sunday has no such problem of course. That’s because San Diego enters this one ranked No. 2 in the NFL in passing yardage, at 291 yards per game.
Really, what quarterback Philip Rivers is doing is one of the most underrated stories in the league. He is tied for third in the league in touchdown passes, having thrown 24, and also is No. 2 in yards at over 3,600, and is doing it all with a 65.5 percent completion percentage. But that’s just part of the story, as Rivers has done it all without his top wide receiver- Vincent Jackson- who has sat out the season. And it’s not like Rivers is getting a ton of support from his running game either. San Diego ranks just 19th in the league in rushing offense.
Which is why when it comes to the NFL Sports Betting picks, we’re telling you to ride San Diego, and ride them big.
Now granted, this isn’t really an upset considering that the Chargers are close to a touchdown favorite, but honestly that number looks about right. Throw the records out, because what this comes down to is matchups, which is where the Chargers have the edge.
We all know what a stud Rivers has been all year, but also remember that he’s going up against just the 21st ranked passing defense in the NFL this Sunday. Kansas City gives up close to 233 yards per game.
Expect an aerial show from Rivers, and a San Diego win. The Chargers should be your NFL Sports Betting wager.
NFL Sports Betting Pick: San Diego -6 ½
