NFL Sports Betting Picks – Vince Young Likely Out Against Eagles
October 24, 2010
Vince Young has been absent from practice during the week and his questionable status should make the Tennessee Titans very nervous about their upcoming weekend in NFL betting. Even if Vince Young is healthy enough to start, you have to worry about the combination of a sprained knee and ankle. He won’t be the same VY we’re used to betting on even if he does play.
The qualities that make Young so special is that, like Philadelphia’s injured Michael Vick, he has a big arm and an uncanny ability to gain yards on his feet. Young’s size make him tough to bring down as well, especially near the goal line. Without a healthy leg to stand on, Vince Young will be attacked all night by the relentless blitz of the Philadelphia Eagles.
That kind of pressure makes the Titans unreliable at home. The fact that they’re just 1-4 ATS in their past 5 home stands should make you a bit queasy as well. For the record, Tennessee is also a brutal 2-4 ATS in NFL sports betting over their past 6 games against the Eagles.

Philadelphia Eagles (4-2) vs. Tennessee Titans (4-2)

NFL Sports Betting Line: Tennessee -3.0 (43)
Still, the Eagles will have to do a masterful job of also containing Chris Johnson who is just as effective as a receiver as he is as a running back. Johnson has broken off for 242 yards and 3 touchdowns in his last two games against Dallas and Jacksonville. While Philadelphia does allow a monstrous amount of yards on the ground, without Vince at full healthy they’ll be able to stack a lot of guys in the box to overcome that problem.
Philadelphia surrenders 115.7 rushing yards per game, ranking them 22nd overall but their secondary has been fantastic lately with just 198.3 yards per game allowed. What’s made betting on the Eagles, who are just 3-6 ATS in their last 9 games, such an iffy online betting pick has a lot to with their rotation at quarterback.
Michael Vick is still too hurt to play in any NFL sports betting matchup, and that means that Kevin Kolb will get the start again. While he isn’t necessarily the guy you want starting for the Eagles, he’s actually been impressive in his last two games. Kolb has 597 passing yards and 4 touchdowns, with just one pick, in his last pair of games. The Eagles are 2-0 SU and ATS in both of those games.
As much as you may hate Kolb personally (for whatever reason), he’s actually the more difficult matchup for Tennessee which ranks 23rd against the pass. Kolb should find plenty of room to hit Jeremy Maclin and use Brett Celek effectively since DeSean Jackson is out with a concussion.
The injury to Jackson is definitely a reason to bet against Philadelphia, but don’t forget that this team is 6-2 SU in their last 8 road games and still boasts a balanced offensive game plan that utilizes LeSean McCoy very well.
Philadelphia may be a wonky bet with Jackson and Vick both ailing, but I just don’t completely trust the Titans yet. Beating Jacksonville and Dallas makes them a team that is slightly overrated and does nothing to convince me otherwise. I like what Philadelphia has done in rallying around Kolb which is why I’m not shying away from them as my NFL sports betting pick on the road in Tennessee.
