NFL Sports Betting Dog Bengals Due for Luck vs. Pittsburgh on Sunday

December 11, 2010

The NFL sports betting dog that the Cincinnati Bengals have become are due for some luck this Sunday when they face the rival Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Bengals are a horrible 2 and 10 straight up and 4 and 8 against the spread this season. Cincinnati has lost 9 games in a row and is easily one of the worst teams in the NFL. What’s really bothersome is the fact that even though the Bengals’ Terrell Owens is having a great season, his signing may be the reason that the Bengals are so bad since T.O.’s addition has led them to forego the running game.

Can Cincinnati turn it around against one of the favorites in the NFL Online betting book to win the Super Bowl, the Pittsburgh Steelers, on Dec. 12th?

Cincinnati Bengals +9 -110 O 39 ½ -110

Pittsburgh Steelers -9 -110 U 39 ½ -110

The trends favor the Steelers in this game.

  • The Pittsburgh Steelers are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. the AFC North.
  • The Favorite is 5 and 2 ATS in the last 7 meetings.
  • The Cincinnati Bengals are 2 and 6 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two.
  • The Cincinnati Bengals are 1 and 4 ATS in their last 5 games on grass.

Pittsburgh probably should cover the spread in this game. Pittsburgh should probably beat the Cincinnati Bengals by at least 14 points in this game. Heck, the Steelers should dominate Cincinnati on Sunday but I don’t feel safe backing the Steelers against the NFL sports betting spread in this matchup.

Why? Because Pittsburgh has a tendency to blow games against the spread after covering the spread a week before. They beat Cincinnati in the first game between these two 27 to 21 to cover the spread. Then, a week later, they lost 26 to 39 as 4 ½ point favorites versus New England. The Steelers destroyed Oakland 35 to 3 and then a week later needed Buffalo WR Stevie Johnson to drop a sure thing touchdown catch in the end zone in order to beat the Bills.

Now, the Steelers take on a team that, on paper, should have no shot against them but my belief is that the Steelers will fail ATS. Cincinnati has a good enough passing game to challenge the Steelers’ 24th ranked secondary. Pittsburgh actually had no answer for T.O. in the first game when Terrell caught 10 passes for 141 yards and 2 touchdowns and although Pittsburgh’s QB, Ben Roethlisberger, was held to 162 yards and 1 touchdown. Those numbers just don’t equate to a victory of more than 9 points in the NFL sports betting book.

The bottom line is that Pittsburgh often plays in tight games against an opponent they should dominate a week after beating a top team. The Steelers hung in and hung in until finally something went their way in the ugly 13 to 10 victory over the Baltimore Ravens last week.

Pittsburgh should beat the Bengals but I doubt that they blow out the Bengals this Sunday. I’m going to go with the Bengals to cover the spread in the sportsbook.
